SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Three animal rights activists have been banned from SeaWorld San Diego following a demonstration at an orca show this year.A San Diego Superior Court order issued Thursday banned three protestors affiliated with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) from entering SeaWorld San Diego and Aquatica San Diego, SeaWorld said in a statement.Included in that ban were Ricky Rodriguez, Lyanne Fernandez, and Lisa Lange, PETA's senior vice president of communications. "We said from the beginning of this case that a safe environment for our employees, guests, and animals is and will always be our top priority, and we will not tolerate this type of behavior in our parks."The three protestors are also legally prohibited from harassing, threatening, or committing violence against 10 SeaWorld employees named in the court documents.The court order stems from a July 24 incident in which the protestors disrupted an "Orca Encounter" presentation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The young woman killed while walking on Interstate 8 in the College Area Saturday was a San Diego State University Student, the Daily Aztec reported.The California Highway Patrol said the woman was on the right hand shoulder of westbound I-8 at Waring Rd. just before 8 p.m. when she was struck and killed.Officers shut down most lanes of the freeway to investigate the crash.The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman Monday as 20-year-old Jasmine Madarang.The Daily Aztec reported she was last seen at a Kappa Alpha tailgate party before SDSU's game against Stanford.CHP investigators are looking into the cause of Madarang's death. 706

The district says the letter “significantly diminishes the scientifically-backed importance of wearing a mask to protect against the transmission of COVID-19.”According to the district, the letter was placed into boxes of free groceries set to be distributed to 50 million families across the country.The district says President Trump’s letter recommends that Americans practice social distancing and “consider wearing a face covering in public.”“Science is clear: wearing a mask works to prevent the spread of the coronavirus,” Superintendent Cindy Marten said. “Masks are required in California and on every San Diego Unified school campus. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The United States Postal Service is handling nearly 16 billion deliveries this holiday season, a record number.Warren Burton, a program manager at the USPS, says it is a 12 percent increase from last year.“There’s a lot of online shopping,” he said, “a lot more than last year.” As a result, the USPS processing and distribution center at Carmel Mountain Ranch in San Diego added more seasonal workers. About 1,100 people are working around the clock up from the normal staffing of close to 900.“We gear up all year for this time of the year, we know it’s going to be non-stop, high volume-high demand,” Burton added.The White House declared Christmas Eve a federal holiday this year, but Burton says that USPS will remain open on Christmas Eve.“We greatly appreciate the gesture, but we’re going to keep working so we can keep the mail going,” Burton said.He says Dec. 20 is the last day to mail out a package or holiday card to make sure it is delivered by Christmas Day using regular shipping.
