NEW YORK (AP) — Actor Carol Sutton, a fixture on stages in her native New Orleans, has died from complications from COVID-19. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced the death. Sutton was 76. Her roles included the 1989 comedy “Steel Magnolias” and the TV series “Queen Sugar.” After making her acting debut in the late 1960s in Dashiki Project Theatre productions, Sutton appeared in productions such as “The Last Madam,” “Native Tongues” and “A Raisin in the Sun.” Her recent credits included work on the remake of the series “Roots,” “Treme,” “True Detective” and “Lovecraft Country.” 599

NEW YORK CITY — Mayor Bill de Blaiso suggested that the snow day as we know it may be gone due to remote learning, as the city prepares for what could be it's biggest snow storm in years. The mayor announced that all schools, including in-person learning, would be open Wednesday. The mayor cited expectations that the storm will not begin to hit New York City until 4 p.m. School buses will also be in use. "School will be in session Wednesday," de Blasio said. "We do not expect the snow to even begin until school is complete tomorrow." On Thursday, there will be classes one way or the other. While the decision has not yet been made on in-person learning, all students will have the option of remote learning for Thursday regardless of how much snow the area gets.De Blasio suggested parents have an alternative ready for Thursday. "We're going to be assessing the storm as it arrives, we will be making a decision as we get more information." De Blasio suggested they may have the information they need to make a decision by 6 p.m. Wednesday. The city is under a winter storm watch for late Wednesday into Thursday. Anthony.The GOP played a video montage featuring Anthony. Moments later, second lady Karen Pence mentioned Anthony, saying that women fought hard for the right to vote, and they should vote for Donald Trump.“100 years ago today, the 19th amendment was adopted into the United States Constitution, guaranteeing women the right to vote. Because of heroes like Susan B. Anthony and Lucy Stone women today, like our daughters, Audrey and Charlotte, and future generations will have their voices heard and their votes count,” Pence said.Last week, President Donald Trump issued a post humorous pardon to Anthony.The pardon was rejected by the Susan B. Anthony Museum.The museum’s CEO, Deborah L. Hughes, said in a statement that the best way to honor Anthony is to restore provisions of the Voting Rights Act.“If one wants to honor Susan B. Newly released police body cam shows Waffle House shooting suspect Travis Reinking in East Tennessee two months before the Antioch attack.It's video from a motel in Alcoa, where Reinking was staying in February while working on a construction project. Full Coverage: Antioch Waffle House ShootingOne clip showed one of his several run-ins with the law. One of those run-ins happened just two months ago.Reinking told the officer someone kept knocking on his window and yelling. However, it was a woman who called police on him for allegedly threatening her in a violent manner. "They'll be talking loud at night, knock on the windows and walk off, and I don't know who it is,” Reinking said in the clip. Samantha Veals said she was trying to put her kids to sleep when she heard Reinking yelling.She told him to be quiet, at which point he allegedly charged inside her motel room, balled up his fist and laughed at her when she screamed.  Reinking admitted to police that he yelled at Veals but denied charging at her. He checked out of the motel that night and Veals opted to not press charges. Reinking?was arrested Monday and charged with four counts of criminal homicide, four counts of attempted murder and one count of unlawful gun possession in the commission of a violent felony.  The Waffle House reopened Wednesday and for the next month, is donating 100 percent of its proceeds to the victims of the attack.  More:  1514

(KGTV) -- Some South Bay neighbors oppose the city of San Diego’s plans to build a sober-living drug treatment facility at the site of a Super 8 Motel in Nestor on Palm Avenue just west of the I-5.The Otay Mesa-Nestor Community Planning Group voted 9-2 Wednesday evening to not recommend the San Diego City Council approve the San Diego Misdemeanants At-Risk Track (SMART) program treatment center at the Super 8 Motel site.  RELATED: City plans to house criminals in South Bay HotelResidents at the meeting said they oppose the facility, mostly because it may interfere with plans to revitalize the area in the future.They believe a drug treatment facility will turn investors away.According to the city, there will be counselors on-site, 24-hour security, and strict rules.According to the City Attorney’s website, “SMART prioritizes chronic misdemeanor offenders with acute drug addictions and complex social service needs. These offenders have one or more drug offenses since Proposition 47 took effect in 2014, and have been arrested at least twice in the past six months for a quality-of-life offense.” 1141
