Americans are tweeting a lot about the band BTS, yoga and chicken during the pandemic. As lockdowns and stay-at-home orders from the coronavirus pandemic pushed many of us inside and away from friends and coworkers, more conversations moved to social media. Twitter released a “twitter from home” trends report this week looking at what we are talking about on their platform between March and August. They reported the yoga/meditation emoji was used 161 percent more during the pandemic than in 2019, the camping emoji was used 93 percent more, and in a sign of how many of us are learning new hobbies, the yarn/knitting emoji increased in use by 67 percent. As for what we are not doing, the selfie emoji and the haircut emoji both decreased in use by 32 percent during the pandemic over 2019.While at home, we are sharing more about our food and baking habits. According to Twitter, the top food mentions on their platform between March and August this year, compared to last year, are:1. Chicken2. Bread3. Cake4. Cookies5. Cheese6. Chocolate7. Rice8. Beans9. An astrological mystery event that lit up the daytime sky Wednesday over parts of the upper and midwest and southern Canada may have been solved.Scientists say the fireball was likely a rock that had escaped an asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter a million or more years ago. They think the chunk of rock has been swirling near earth for awhile.“It’s probably been crossing the Earth’s path countless times, until its time was up in 2020,” Robert Lunsford, fireball report coordinator for the American Meteor Society, told Syracuse.com. “The chance of a collision is infinitesimal, but if you do it several million times, it finally happens.”Apparently the time to finally happen was around noon on Wednesday, December 2. Thousands of people reported seeing a bright streak of light lasting a few seconds, and thousands more heard the deafening boom.Reports came in from several states, including Ohio, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania,Virginia, as well as parts of Toronto, Ontario and southeast Canada, according to the American Meteor Society. It’s not unusual for meteors to enter Earth’s atmosphere or make it to the ground, however this one was rare because it happened in a very populated area.NASA’s analysis of the event shows the meteoroid entered Earth’s atmosphere over upper New York, roughly between Rochester and Syracuse traveling roughly 56,000 mph. Which is slow by meteor standards. It then broke into pieces roughly 22 miles in the air, which produced the bright flash of light and loud sonic boom.NASA estimates the meteor was roughly three feet across and weighed about 1,800 pounds when it entered the atmosphere.NASA reportedly has three meteor-tracking cameras in Ohio and western Pennsylvania that could have precisely tracked this event, but they were off at the time because of the time of day.“Meteor cameras don’t turn on until night because they’re too sensitive to the sun,” explained Bill Cooke, who tracks meteors for NASA. 1966

American businesses are on a hiring spree. The US economy added 313,000 jobs in February. That was much stronger than economists expected and the biggest gain since July 2016, according to Labor Department figures published Friday. The unemployment rate stayed at 4.1%, the lowest in 17 years.Wages grew 2.6% compared with a year earlier, a few notches below the pace in January. That delighted investors: The Dow was set to open up more than 150 points. More modest wage growth cools fears about inflation and rising US interest rates, both of which spooked the markets last month. In the first two months of the year, the United States has already added more than half a million jobs.Job gains for December and January were both revised higher.  757

American’s Chief Medical Officer and leaders from our pilots’ office have been in touch with our Dallas Fort Worth based pilot who tested positive for COVID-19. We are in close contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and public health officials and are coordinating with them on all required health and safety measures.“ 354

Arlina Allen is a life-recovery coach and podcaster. She’s been sober for 26 years. From her experience, she says the holiday season is often challenging for people recovering from addiction.“I would experience situations or triggers that I didn’t know how to handle," Allen said. "Like nobody plans to get triggered, but once you have an emotional response to a situation, if you are not prepared and you don’t have tools, it’s very difficult to choose wisely. Like my compulsive choice was to reach for a drink or a bong hit.”She says connecting with others who have shared similar trauma experiences is essential in the recovery process. That’s why she plans to attend a holiday fellowship marathon on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day offered for free by Lionrock Recovery.“For me personally, Lionrock is my revenge against addiction that took my sister and almost took one of my children,” said Lionrock Recovery Co-founder and CEO Peter Loeb.Father Peter Loeb and daughter Ashley Loeb Blassingame are co-founders of Lionrock. Ashley’s been sober for 15 years and she says she’s here to set an example of what sobriety can be.“Holidays are traditionally tough for anyone in recovery, not least because these occasions typically involve alcohol. In fact, CDC numbers show that December is the most dangerous time of year for drug and alcohol-related deaths”They’re determined to help people looking for recovery – which is why they offer the 15-hour marathon every year, all done virtually.“We were telehealth from the very beginning," Loeb said. "People got to laugh at us for many years before, in the last really year, telehealth has gone mainstream.”Run by Lionrock staff, the marathon isn’t only for people struggling with addiction. Loeb says it’s available for anyone feeling lonely or with mental health struggles. All you have to do is visit lionrock.life online. The entire day is filled with fellowship and activities.“Mindfulness meditation, a documentary about Chris Herren who is in recovery, coffee by the campfire, a painting activity,” Loeb listed.Loeb Blassingame says recovery, alcoholism, addiction or any kind of mental health illness thrives in isolation, which has made 2020 even more difficult.“The people who are staying sober and staying well are the ones who are connected by some sort of community where there is some sort of anchor," Loeb Blassingame said. "And the ones who are falling off are the ones who are passing away or the ones who are relapsing.”What fuels Arlina’s podcast is the power of people sharing their stories and opening their hearts.“When someone is vulnerable and speaks from their heart, that is a language that passes all boundaries," Allen said. "We get connected and suddenly we feel like we’re not alone or we’re not that different.”It’s a battle that’s so hard. Both Allen and Ashley Loeb Blassingame fully understand that battle. However, there is hope for change.“I am encouraging people to focus on the solution, find connection in any way you can, and put one foot in front of the other whatever that looks like,” Loeb Blassingame said. 3109
