SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the first time in 40 days, San Diego County has fallen below the state's County Monitoring List threshold for coronavirus case rate.San Diego County was placed on the list on July 3 after it crossed the state metric of 100 cases per 100,000 people over 14 days. Wednesday, the county reported a case rate of 94.1.The county will have to remain off the watch list for another three days to get off California's watch list and an additional 14 days in order for local schools grades 7th through 12th can return to in-person instruction.No other businesses are slated to be allowed to reopen after that 17-day window unless the state provides more guidance for business reopenings, according to the county.San Diego County reported 236 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, a 3% positive rate out of 7,339 reported tests. Six new deaths were also reported, including five women and one man who died between July 28 and Aug. 11. All of the victims had underlying conditions, county officials said.The county also reported two new community outbreaks, one in a grocery setting and one in a manufacturing setting.While the county's case rate has fallen, it continues to be high above its community outbreak threshold of seven in seven days. Currently, the county has 26 community outbreaks in a week. A community outbreak is three or more coronavirus cases in the same setting in people of different households in the past two weeks.Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said of the drop in the county's case rate: "San Diegans should be proud of the progress we have made, but we have to recognize the goal is not just to get our cases down, it is to keep them down. According to a budget released by SANDAG, most of the funds will go towards transportation, not roads. The move has some throughout the county concerned that not enough will go toward roads in need of repair. “I'm pragmatic about it and I do worry about the fact that these tend to suck up all of the money and leave nothing left for highways,” said El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells.The concern comes after SANDAG announced “5 Big Moves.” The project focuses on the future of public transportation. Read all five points of the plan below: Complete CorridorsThe backbone of a complete transportation system that leverages technology, pricing, and connectivity to repurpose how both highways and local roads are used and managed. Complete Corridors would increase safety, capacity, and efficiency; provide dedicated space for high-speed transit and other pooled services; manage demand in real-time; and maximize use of existing roadways. Local roads are designed and operated to equally accommodate all users, including transit, cars, bikes, pedestrians, and commercial vehicles. Features may include dynamically managed curb space, transit amenities, bike facilities, pedestrian refuges, or smart intersection systems. Smart intersection systems would improve safety for all modes through use of sensors and alerts to vehicles and individuals, and could give transit priority treatments that make transit faster and more reliable. Wireless charging at parking facilities, intersections, and/or roadways will support future induction charging for zero-emission vehicles. Complete Corridors will provide connections to the Mobility Hubs network and infrastructure to support use of shared, on-demand Flexible Fleets. Transit LeapA complete network of high-capacity, high-speed, and high-frequency transit services that incorporates new transit modes and improves existing services. New high-speed services could include grade separated or tunneled services that span long segments with limited stops connecting major destinations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- For the first time in nearly 100 years, an integrated company of male and female recruits at MCRD San Diego are about to begin their journey into becoming Marines. These future Marines will be led by graduates from MCRD's first ever integrated Drill Instructor Course. Now the mission of the course is to screen, train, and further develp leadership and command presence of selected Marines, in order to successfully perform duties of a drill instructor."We are taking them from the leadership skills, that they had in the fleet, and further refining them here," says Major Lynn Stow, Director of the MCRD San Diego Drill Instructor Course. "The drill instructor's goal is to successfully transfer recruits into United States Marines."Fifty-seven Marines are scheduled to graduate from the grueling 57 day course, and for the very first time, the graduating class will include 3 females."Getting the opportunity to come here was almost like divine intervention, everything just kind of fell into place," says student Sargent Stephanie Fahl. "To come here and make it this far, I'm really proud of myself."These future drill instructors at MCRD are looking forward to changing the lives of young 17 and 18-year-old recruits. "The change I'd like to instill in the recruits is to obviously maintain that discipline that's a staple of recruit training,"says student Sargent Stephanie Jordi. "I'd also like to inspire them and teach them how to become leaders even from that lowest level." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Families across the San Diego region are continuing to battle record high home prices and rents.But there are now several plans in the works to boost supply - and hopefully bring prices down."There's no magic bullet, no magic wand," said Rick Gentry, who heads the San Diego Housing Commission. "I don't see there's one solution. There are a host of solutions that we can bring to bear that over time will reduce the problem."Jimmy Ayala, who heads Pardee Homes of San Diego, says the biggest change that could lower prices is reducing the time it takes to get permits. In total, 544 cases of hepatitis A have been reported throughout San Diego County. The new numbers come after the Board of Supervisors Monday extended the state of emergency amid the hep A outbreak.
