EL CAJON (CNS) - Murder and attempted murder charges were filed Friday against a man accused of shooting two men in El Cajon earlier this year, killing one of them.Roberto Hernandez, 26, faces 59 years to life in state prison if convicted of the charges stemming from the March 20 shooting that killed James Bowens, 20, and injured another 20-year-old man, both El Cajon residents, according to Deputy District Attorney Clayton Carr.Police said officers responded just before 8 p.m. to reports of gunshots in the area of 700 Applewood Drive. Witnesses said "a confrontation had taken place in the street near the intersection of Applewood Drive and Cedar Street," according to El Cajon police.Bowens died at a hospital of at least one gunshot to his upper body and the other man was shot in the leg, police said.A suspected motive for the shooting, and the relationship, if any, between Hernandez and the victims, was not disclosed.Hernandez, who entered a not guilty plea, is being held without bail and is due back in court June 29, according to county jail records. 1076

Their dream home was destroyed after they thought the house was sold."I mean, there was just no words...the feces and the urine spread all over our white cabinets, all over our hardwood floor, it was even on the ceiling —10-foot ceilings," Jenny Fisch said.The Fischs put their home on the market for 0,000, and the first offer they received was for full asking price. They were elated, but there was a catch: The buyers wanted to rent the home with the promise they would close in three months."We were told these people were 100 percent qualified, there was no question about it," Jenny Fisch said.Everything seemed to be fine, and they had no reason to doubt the offer. The realtor drafted up a contract with information about the loan and a closing date of January 31, 2018. The deadline came and went without the buyers closing on their home even though they were already living in it."What do we do? The only thing we have left to do is start an eviction," Paul Fisch said.The couple even attempted to work out a new deal with the would-be buyers so they could continue renting and eventually purchase the home. The buyers stopped paying rent and they had no choice but to evict them. It wasn't a quick process. Paul and Jenny Fisch weren't prepared for what they were about to find when they showed up to their home with a sheriff's deputy to finally kick the renters out."When she walked out her face was like, 'it's bad," said Paul Fisch.Floors were covered in urine, there was feces everywhere and the smell was overwhelming. The house was absolutely filthy and completely trashed."And I lost it, I just lost it. I was like, 'I don't understand why we have to go through this.' I mean we hired people and now my beautiful dream home is covered in feces and I don't know how we're going to fix it," said Jenny Fisch.Records show the buyer was pre-approved for a loan, but only if he completed a program and improved his credit score. The lender said that never happened. This information was not made available to the Fischs, and they only found out after the deal fell through.The couple said their agent and the buyer's agent assured them everything was good when they agreed to let the buyers rent. A spokesperson for RE/MAX, the buyer's realtor, said realtors don't qualify buyers and it is up to the lender."It's their fault and nobody wants to help us," said Jenny Fisch.The Fischs tried to filed a report with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, but they were told it was a civil matter. They also tried to contact Child Protective Services and animal control because a child, seven dogs and three cats lived in the home with the renters.The Fischs' insurance also won't cover the damage. A spokesperson for Auto-Owners Insurance said they had no comment on the situation.Now the couple is paying a mortgage on a home they can't live in and trying to figure out how to come up with the funds to pay for repairs. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - Renovations are underway at the East County Performing Arts Center to turn the nearly 50-year-old performance hall into a rock and roll concert venue."We have to change the vibe, the feel of what this building is," said Dirk Epperson, El Cajon's Director of Public Works.The venue closed in 2009 when the recession forced cuts in the city budget. Now, the renovations come as tour promoter Live Nation prepares to take over the venue. The City of El Cajon entered into a five year deal with the concert company to manage the building. As part of the agreement, Live Nation will bring 50 events to the venue in 2019, and as many as 70 events by 2023. Live Nation also manages the House of Blues in San Diego and Mattress Firm Amphitheater in Chula Vista."We're not sure what it will be like," said Mayor Bill Wells.  "We've never had this regular, steady diet of top name acts that are coming in. So nobody's quite sure how much this is going to have a ripple effect around El Cajon. But everybody thinks it will be positive."The city is now spending .3 million to upgrade the facility. Improvements include new amenities like modern concessions, a more open entrance, and lobby area and new plush seating in the first few rows. The seating capacity for the main hall will also increase to 1,300. Part of the plan also calls for a brand new VIP Lounge at the back of the venue. The money for the project comes from the sale of the old police headquarters.As for what kind of acts will fill the venue, Epperson said it's entirely up to Live Nation."It can pretty much be any type of act or band," he said, adding the city will let the experts decide. "But you can imagine the ones that are on their way up or on their way down will be coming to this size venue."Smaller, local performances like school concerts and recitals will still be held at the venue, which Wells says is part of the community.
