According to Feeding America projections, an estimated 17 million additional Americans are expected to become food insecure in 2020, placing further strain on the nation’s food banks and pantries.“The people we serve – many who are visiting our food banks for the first time – are waiting in hours-long lines for food,” said Kate Leone, Chief Government Relations Officer for Feeding America. “Not increasing investment in food, transportation, and storage, as well as the capacity to help our network feed millions more families during this economic downturn is a missed opportunity.”While there is a general consensus in Washington on sending out another wave of ,200 stimulus checks, other issues remain unsolved, including unemployment supplements and liability protection for companies. 2337

North Korea has been sending supplies to Syria that could be used to produce chemical weapons, a United Nations Security Council diplomat has told CNN.Speaking on condition of anonymity, the diplomat said that North Korea had sent acid-resistant tiles, valves and thermometers to Syria. (KGTV) - Peking Restaurant, a staple of the North Park food scene for 88 years, will close in March of 2019.The owners made the announcement on their Facebook page earlier this month, saying it was time to retire."I'm going on 75 years old," co-owner Ken Fong told 10News. "It's time to enjoy my last few years."The Facebook post says "This decision did not come lightly to us as Pekin is such a special place in our hearts and we love what we do and all of you. A majority of our incredible staff here have been with us 25-40 years... and are ready for the next chapter of retirement and new endeavors."Fong says it's not just the owners who want to retire, but cooks and servers as well.Since word got out about the closure, the restaurant has been flooded with people who want one more meal at a place that became the go-to spot for Chinese food in the area."It's overwhelming," says Fong. "It's driving us nuts. Everyone is overworked."Fond adds that he doesn't mind the extra work, but he didn't expect this kind of reaction.In the wake of the extra crowds, the restaurant put up a sign warning customers that wait times may take longer than usual. They say they don't want to add capacity, so they can give customers the same level of service they've always had.People in the area say it's sad to see such a great place go away."This is something I've known my whole life. I'm going to miss it," says Barbara Sims. She used to come with her parents as a child. Now she brings her grandkids to the restaurant when they visit.Fong says he appreciates all the well wishes he's received in the past few weeks."They all want to come back and have one last memory," he says. Clinton's "She Persisted in Sports: American Olympians Who Changes the Game" will be published Sept. 22 by the children's imprint Philomel Books. The latest of Clinton's best-selling "She Persisted" picture books will include sections on Wilma Rudolph, Mia Hamm, and Venus and Serena Williams. Also on Monday, Philomel announced that a new series of chapter books will feature 80-page stories on women that Clinton previously honored. NEW YORK CITY — The principals and teachers unions are calling for New York City to delay school reopening for at least a month.While most major cities have opted to start the school year virtually, New York City still plans on resuming in-person. "But the question is really, what is the mission? The mission is to take care of our kids."Jacob Stebel, a high school film teacher in the Bronx, said a pod system, where students would be taught in groups in a single classroom, won’t work with high schoolers.“Students will be grouped by the classes they have to take together, instead of students moving from classroom to classroom, teachers are moving from classroom to classroom," Stebel said.That would put him in six to seven different classrooms a day with just as many groups of students.“If I have to go into eight different classrooms a day, I have to set up my materials again,” he said.According to the mayor and city’s top educator, with a month to go, they’re still working through the details."One of the things we're working on right now, and, again, with a month to go, is how can we compress things so even at the middle school and high school level, there's less movement," de Blasio said.
