(AP) — Jurors have reached a verdict in the case of a Southern California man charged with killing a family of four and burying their bodies in the desert.The San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office said Friday that the verdict in the case against 62-year-old Charles "Chase" Merritt will be read in court Monday.Merritt is charged with killing his business associate Joseph McStay, McStay's wife, Summer, and the couple's 3- and 4-year-old sons.RELATED: Dramatic closing arguments in McStay family murder trialThe family vanished from their San Diego County home in 2010. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 27-year-old man suffered non-life threatening knife wounds to his back and abdomen when he was attacked by an assailant this morning in the Logan Heights community of San Diego, a police officer said.The victim was walking across a pedestrian bridge in the 2000 block of Kearny Avenue a little after 1:05 a.m. when the suspect walked up behind him and stabbed him in the back and abdomen, said Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department."The victim thought it was a punch until he felt blood and realized he was stabbed,'' Heims said. "The victim ran across the street and it is unknown where the suspect went. SAN DIEGO (AP and KGTV) — Marine Corps officials say charges are pending against 12 Camp Pendleton Marines accused of being involved in smuggling, including driving migrants across the US-Mexico border.The Marines, who are part of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, are in confinement, officials said.Those being held include two Marine riflemen who were stopped by U.S. Border Patrol agents on July 3 driving from the border with three Mexicans in the back of a BMW. That led to the additional arrests. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 66-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday morning with wounds he suffered in a stabbing in the Mira Mesa neighborhood of San Diego and a 19-year-old suspect was in custody.The victim was walking in the area of Westview Parkway and Galvin Avenue about 9:10 p.m. Friday when he got into an argument with the suspect, who stabbed him three times, then ran away through the parking lot of a business, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The victim was stabbed in the chest and suffered cuts to his stomach and finger. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries, Heims said.Police searched the area and located the suspect, identified as Dejon Heard, and took him into custody, Heims said.Anyone who witnessed the stabbing was asked to call San Diego police Northeastern Division detectives at 858-538-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580- 8477. 929
