For more than a decade, Dawn Comstock has studied sports injuries among high school athletes, collecting data from hundreds of high schools across the country.She says after going over all the numbers, something began to stand out about men and women’s lacrosse.“We really just set out to ask the question, "how much of the concussions of girls lacrosse could be directly attributed to the fact that they are prohibited from wearing the hard shell helmet with the full facemask that’s required in boys lacrosse?" said Comstock.Ann Kitt Carpenetti from US Lacrosse says the differences create almost a different game with different issues.“The game rules are different, the culture is different, we do recognize that injuries do occur in both games," said Carpenetti.There’s no body checking, basically a running shove, in women’s lacrosse like there is in the men’s game. Because of that rule, women's lacrosse players don't wear helmets.But Comstock and fellow professor Sarah Fields found that rule isn't keeping female players from getting hurt.“What we found was 72.7% of all of the concussions among girls high school lacrosse players resulted from being struck by a stick or a ball," said Comstock.Almost three quarters of concussions among women's players have nothing to do with player-to-player contact.The researchers estimated that by requiring them to wear helmets, they could reduce the total concussions in the sport by 45%“61.5% of the concussions that resulted from being hit by the stick or the ball in girls lacrosse players could have been prevented if they had been wearing the same helmet the hard shell helmet with the full facemask that boys lacrosse players are required to wear,” said Comstock.US Lacrosse says it has a helmet designed for women’s lacrosse and is testing it in Florida“In terms of the rate of head injuries caused by stick and ball, some concussive, some other, we agree it was notable. And that’s why we led the development of the ASTM head gear back in 2008,” said Carpenetti.The helmet is softer and has less coverage than the male helmet, and right now it’s optional in all states except Florida. Depending on the results of an ongoing study of it’s effectiveness it could be rolled out across the country.But for Fields and Comstock, that rollout is inching along at a painful rate."Sport culture, loves to move at a glacial pace, I mean we're still arguing about designated hitters in baseball. Four suspects that were allegedly involved in the murder of Baltimore County Police Officer Amy Caprio have been identified and charged as adults.Eugene Genius IV, 17, Darrell Ward, 15, Derrick Matthews, 16, and Dawnta Harris, 16, are all being charged with first-degree murder after Caprio, was run over by a car and killed on Monday. Genius, Ward, and Matthews are also facing first-degree burglary charges as well. On Monday, the teenagers were allegedly breaking into homes in the Perry Hall area when Caprio responded. Genius, Ward, and Matthews were reportedly inside a home when Caprio arrived.Harris was waiting in a Jeep Wrangler, and when Officer Caprio told him to get out of the car he allegedly ran her over and then drove away. After a multi-day manhunt, al four teenagers are in police custody.According to charging documents, Genius was arrested a day after the murder occurred and objected to his murder charges, saying that he was in the house when the murder happened. He added that he only knew two of the others involved, not all three. They all have a trial date of June 1. ????Harris has been charged with a series of carjackings, including stealing the vehicle that police say was used to kill officer Caprio. Police say Harris was under house arrest and wearing an ankle monitor at the time.Speaking at the District Court for Baltimore on Tuesday, the judge in the case said he wasn't sure any juvenile facility is secure enough to hold Dawnta Harris.Prosecutors said Harris was arrested four times for auto theft since December of last year.“This 16-year-old perhaps shouldn’t have been out (of jail),” Baltimore County Police Chief Terrence Sheridan said.Maryland Secretary of Juvenile Services Sam Abed said the court acted with the Baltimore City State's Attorney and the public defender to let him out on house arrest. “On May 10, there was a detention that the department was not privy a party to where the youth was released back to electronic monitoring,” Abed said.Between then and May 18, Abed said his compliance was poor and they requested that he be brought in.His mother had reached out to the court to let them know she couldn’t find him. “We attempted to contact the youth through his cell phone,” Abed said. “Went to his school and other places that we knew him to frequent to try and locate him. (KGTV) - The former Camp Pendleton Marine accused of supporting a Christmas Day terror attack at San Francisco's Pier 39 popular tourist destination was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison.Everitt Aaron Jameson, 26, pleaded guilty to the plot in June. He supported radical ISIS jihadi beliefs, wrote social media posts supporting terrorism, communicated with people he believed supported his views, and offered to provide services to them with a tow truck, according to a report written by FBI Special Agent Christopher McKinney.A confidential source alerted the FBI last fall to a Facebook account Jameson ran, agents said.  Jameson “liked” and “loved” posts that were pro-ISIS and pro-terrorist, the source told the FBI.
