SAN YSIDRO, Calif. -- The Department of Defense announced Monday that it plans to move an additional 300 troops to the California border, according to ABC News.The announcement was made after hundreds of migrants rushed the border in a show of force, causing the San Ysidro port of entry to close for hours.The troops were assigned to the Texas and Arizona borders, a spokesperson for US Northern Command tells ABC News.The decision was reached following an assessment by US Customs and Border Protection after the 500 migrants rushed the border.The majority of the 300 troops will be Military Police units as well as engineers. (KGTV) -- A 70-year-old U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer was arrested Wednesday after prosecutors say he strangled a traveler in San Ysidro.Prosecutors say while on duty, Harvey Booker, 70, strangled a traveler at the San Ysidro Port of Entry that resulted in “bodily harm.”No details on what led up to the incident were released about the July 8 incident.“There is no excuse for law enforcement officials to abuse the significant trust and power placed in them,” said U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman. “Law enforcement takes great pride in protecting the civil rights of all people. When that trust is betrayed, we must hold that officer accountable.”CBP responded with the following comment.“U.S. Customs and Border Protection stresses professionalism, honor and integrity in every aspect of our mission and does not tolerate actions by any employee that would tarnish the reputation of our agency,” said Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations.The agency says they are cooperating with the FBI and DHS in the investigation. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A San Marcos man had to rush his small dog to the hospital after the animal was bitten by a rattlesnake that somehow managed to get into the home.Ross Margolin says he came home to feed his five dogs when he heard the dogs in the other room barking at something.When he walked into the kitchen, he says he heard the unmistakable rattle. Margolin quickly called a company that specialized in getting snakes out of the house.The man who came to collect the rattlesnake was able to quickly get the two and a half foot long reptile out of the home. Margolin says he later noticed one of his dogs was bitten by the snake.Fortunately, Margolin says his dog quickly recovered after being rushed to the animal hospital for treatment. Margolin says the snake was able to get into the home through an open sliding door.  857

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Emergency crews have recovered a body after an incident at a Scottsdale aquatic park.Crews were at Eldorado Aquatic Park near Hayden and McDowell road early Monday morning.Scottsdale police say around 12:30 a.m.; an officer was making rounds in the area when he heard what sounded like muffled calls for help.He worked to locate where the calls may be coming from and eventually found them to be coming from a pipe that helps support one of the water slides.Officers were communicating with the victim, said to be a transient, but lost communication with him around 2 a.m.Officials say the man reportedly went up over a tall fence surrounding the park and was up on the slide. He then somehow fell into the pipe structure, where he became trapped.Crews had to dismantle the slide in order to get the victim's body out.He has since been identified as 31-year-old Ryan Kelly. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) — A man was killed after their pickup truck crashed into a brick wall early Wednesday morning.At about 2:56 a.m., a black Dodge Dakota pickup truck veered off of N. Las Posas Road, south of the intersection of Avenida Azul, crashed into a brick wall in the center median, the San Diego Sheriff's Department said.SDSO investigators say it's unclear why the vehicle left the roadway.The 68-year-old male driver, who was the only person in the truck, was pronounced deceased at the scene.It's unclear if alcohol or drugs were a factor. 566
