SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police homicide detectives investigated Monday the death of a woman whose body was discovered by her sister.Officers were called to the home in the 4000 block of Van Dyke Ave. between Polk and University Avenues just before 9 a.m., police said.A woman went to the home to find her sister, who she had not seen since Saturday. When there was no answer at the condominium, the sister contacted the landlord.Upon entry, the woman found her 36-year-old sister lying dead on the floor.Family has identified the victim as Muna Kuri. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Residents all over San Diego County Wednesday night reported seeing mysterious lights hovering in the sky. 10News received several calls from residents throughout the county who reported seeing the lights in the western sky between 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Reports came in from Blossom Valley, La Jolla, Del Mar, Chula Vista and El Cajon.10News reached out to authorities to find out what may be the source of the lights, and an official with Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado confirmed that the lights were from flares being used during training exercises. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Rocks or BB pellets have hit more than a dozen taxis as they traveled near the San Diego International Airport over the past week, cab drivers told 10News.The attacks along Harbor Drive have left cracks in their windshields and dents in the vehicles’ sides, cabbies said.“It's life threatening and we are just shocked what's going on,” said cabbie Ahmad Saddat-Nejad.Saddat-Nejad, who has been driving for almost 30 years, said he has never had anything like these attacks happen.“My car was not even in motion. Suddenly, I hear ‘boom’. Somebody threw a rock,” he said, reporting an incident on Harbor Drive at Laurel Street.“It happened to five cars yesterday again,” said Alex Tegegne of the San Diego Taxi Association.Tegegne said the attacks occur every night after dark, from North Harbor Drive down the Embarcadero.“We start to say do we need a helmet, or what should we do now? Should we avoid going on Harbor? What can we do,” Tegegne told 10News.In all, 17 cabs have been targeted.“It is totally very scary, and the customers don't feel comfortable about it,” said Tegegne.Cab drivers say they can’t afford to lose those customers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County recorded its first death of the flu season this week, a 52-year-old woman.County health officials say the woman had underlying medical conditions and it's not known if she had been vaccinated or not."Any death is tragic. Our condolences go out to the individual’s family," Wilma Wooten, County public health officer, said. So far this season, the county has seen 155 total cases, compared to 383 this time last season.Last season, a total of 342 people died due to complications from the flu, including two children. County health officials recommend everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccination. Vaccinations generally take about two weeks for immunity to develop.In addition, residents should make sure they wash their hands thoroughly and often, use hand sanitizer, and stay home if they are sick. 1128

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County officials are once again sounding the alarm, asking San Diegans to follow all health guidelines to slow the spread of COVID-19.On Wednesday, local leaders held a press conference to discuss the county's latest numbers and their placement on the state's colored tier system. The county stayed in the red tier, but was dangerously close to slipping into the more restrictive purple tier. In fact, County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said San Diego County was only two cases away from the purple tier."Yesterday we dodged a bullet. We could not have gotten any closer without tripping into the purple tier," County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said at Wednesday's press conference. "But we don't want to live or die on the tiers by how many tests we've done."The county's unadjusted case rate is 7.7, while the adjusted rate is 7.0. Officials said the county's testing efforts allowed for that adjusted number. The county's health equity metric also improved, going down from 5.7% to 5.5%; the metric looks at the most undeserved, impacted communities.On Wednesday, health officials reported 263 new COVID-19 infections and six additional deaths, raising the region's cumulative totals to 53,263 cases and 863 fatalities.Six new community outbreaks were also reported Wednesday, two in businesses, two in restaurants, one in a restaurant/bar setting and one in a healthcare setting. In the past seven days, 32 community outbreaks were confirmed, well above the trigger of seven or more in a week's time.A community outbreak is defined as three or more COVID-19 cases in a setting and in people of different households over the past 14 days.Wooten said the best way to keep cases down is to continue following all health guidelines in place, like wearing a mask, staying home if you're sick, social distancing and avoiding indoor gatherings. The county is also looking ahead to Election Day, urging San Diegans to vote via mail-in ballot, but also reassuring in-person voters that it will be safe to cast a ballot. County Registrar of Voters Michael Vu is asking all in-person voters to wear a mask and be patient on Election Day. Vu said all 4,500 election workers will undergo two days of training before the election so they can handle sanitization procedures and how to direct crowds.
