However, according to CBP data, only 12 of those individuals were encountered at the southern border from October 2017 to October 2018, according to CNN.Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said earlier this month CBP has stopped over 3,000 "special interest aliens trying to come into the country on the southern border."However, there's no uniform definition of the term "special interest alien." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One man has died after a hit-and-run outside Sharp Memorial Hospital in Kearny Mesa, after he had reportedly been discharged from the hospital.San Diego Police said a 61-year-old man was in the southbound land in the 3000 block of Health Center Dr. when they were hit by an unknown vehicle just after 5:30 p.m. The vehicle fled the scene after hitting the man, SDPD said.The man was taken to the hospital, where he died.Police told ABC 10News at the scene that the man had reportedly just been discharged from the hospital before he was hit by the vehicle.SDPD Traffic Division was investigating the collision. The victim's name was not immediately released.Health Center Dr. and Frost St. were closed following the hit-and-run for investigators. 773

She uses an app to call a smart shuttle, which takes her to a transit center she hops on a subway, and is whisked away.Or, she can drive on a toll lane and get across the county in 20 to 25 minutes."Think about the impossible, take risks. Keep going," said Hasan Ikhrata, the San Diego Association of Government's executive director. Ikhrata and his team unveiled its transit vision for the region Friday, with a target completion of 2050.The goal is to take the reliance off the car or make it more efficient for drivers with lanes that can change purposes based on traffic patterns. Still, it will come at a cost: 7 billion."It's expensive but I think it's worth the investment," Ikhrata said. "I think it's more expensive not to do it than to do it."Ikhrata says the plan will have to go to a public vote, and that it could involve a tax increase. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- More than a dozen migrants were apprehended after 150 migrants tried to climb the border fence in San Diego, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The incident happened New Year’s Eve at an unspecified time. According to the agency, 45 migrants turned back due to CBP’s increased presence at the border before another group of migrants started throwing rocks at agents. Border Patrol agents added that the group tried to lift toddler-sized children over the concertina wire, but agents were unable to help the children because too many rocks were being thrown. Agents used pepper spray upwind and tear gas of the migrants to try and deter them from throwing rocks. CBP says the measures weren’t aimed at the migrants and “successfully suppressed the rock throwers causing them to flee the area.”Most of the migrants returned to Mexico through a hole under the fence and by climbing back over the fence. A total of 25 migrants were apprehended. Under CHP’s use of force policy, the incident is being reviewed. The incident comes on the heels of another recent event at the border in which hundreds of migrants tried to rush the border, forcing the hours-long closure of the San Ysidro Port of Entry. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 140 women, children and their family members will live inside Golden Hall for at least the next three months.The theater's second floor concourse will serve as a temporary bridge shelter while the city installs a new shelter tent at the corner of 17th and Imperial. Father Joe's Villages will manage the shelter, which is to serve as a transition for homeless families to find permanent housing and get on their feet. A recent city report found about 1,500 people were sleeping on San Diego's streets. The families moving into Golden Hall had been living in a bridge tent shelter at 14th and Commercial. That shelter is being removed to make way for a Father Joe's 14-story affordable housing tower. Golden Hall will have on-site residential staff and security 24 hours a day. Deacon Jim Vargas, president of Father Joe's Villages, said Golden Hall's location will present challenges when it comes to delivering key services out of Father Joe's main campus across downtown. He said these next few months will be a good test to see if something longer term could work. "I personally would love, in addition to the tent, to have some brick and mortar," said Vargas. "And if this facility works out well we'd be happy to continue as a service provider."The city is installing the new tent at 17th and Commercial over the next few months.
