Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is opening a tuition-free preschool in Washington state.According to Bezos' philanthropic organization Day One Fund's website, the Bezos Academy will open on Oct. 19 in Des Moines, Washington.The Montessori-inspired preschool will serve children between the ages of three and five and will prioritize low-income families."In selecting communities for our preschools, we consider a wide range of data, including income levels, participation in free and reduced-cost meal programs, and gaps in access to licensed childcare providers," the organization stated. Airbnb announced new rules for New Year's Eve to prevent parties and large gatherings at its properties amid a surge in coronavirus cases.The vacation rental company released its plan on Thursday to limit rentals in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, Australia, France, and Spain.The new measures state that Airbnb would require guests who don't have a positive review history to book a minimum of two nights for any stay, including Dec. 31. Any guests with reservations on Dec. 31 must swear that they will not throw a party under threat of legal charges.The company said that guests who have a history of positive reviews on Airbnb would not be subject to this restriction.The company said it would allow already-booked one-night reservations to continue as planned since their "data has historically shown that one-night New Year’s Eve bookings made prior to now very rarely lead to unauthorized parties." 936

ABSARD, Iran (AP) — State television says an Iranian scientist was killed in a targeted attack killed in Absard, a small city just east of the capital, Tehran. State TV says the attack on the scientist, named Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, saw gunmen use explosives and machine gun fire. He was attacked by "armed terrorist elements," according to state TV, and died at a local hospital after first responders couldn't revive him.Israel has alleged the man led the Islamic Republic’s military nuclear program until its disbanding in the early 2000s.Iran’s foreign minister is alleging the killing of Fakhrizadeh has “serious indications” of an Israeli role. ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York is urging travelers from eight additional states to self-quarantine for 14 days as it awaits a decision on the reopening of indoor dining in New York City. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a television interview that he plans to send state police and health and liquor officials to New York City on Tuesday night ahead of his decision expected Wednesday. Last week, Cuomo and counterparts in New Jersey and Connecticut announced a travel advisory requiring people from states with "increased prevalence of COVID-19" to quarantine for two weeks. That advisory applies to states with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents, or a test positivity rate higher than 10%.Tuesday, California, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, and Tennessee were added to New York’s travel advisory. Those states join Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah.The Democratic governor said he’s worried by reports that dining in closed, indoor areas with air-conditioned systems could lead to spikes in COVID-19.
