They were notified Wednesday that if the school isn't squired by a buyer it will shut down on Friday, March 8.“We could see the cracks in the walls when a lot of the department heads were let go and they had one person running all the programs," said Tom Aleo, who studies game art and design. Aleo had just one quarter left before graduation. He says despite problems in the last year they were hoping for the best. "The emotions here are all over the place; shocked, confused, depressed," said Aleo. In July the Art Institute in Mission Valley stopped enrolling new students. And this week court documents revealed the company which operates the school, Argosy University, is accused of misusing millions of federal dollars.Students are frustrated they only got two days of warning that the school was closing, and are now scrambling to figure out their options. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Southcrest neighbors banned together to file a lawsuit against the City of San Diego, claiming a city park was not designed to properly drain and therefore floods the neighborhood each time it rains.Last December was the breaking point for neighbors near Southcrest Trails Park, at S. 37th Street and a dirt road behind houses situated on Beta Street. They say feet of water flooded into their homes."This actually becomes a sinkhole, this area," said Greg Montoya, who is leading the charge with his hefty binder full of decades of documentation of the problem. Montoya has pictures of his white pickup truck sunken rims-deep into his yard due to saturation.The lawsuit describes it as "a 66-acre, 1.2-mile corridor in the Southcrest neighborhood of San Diego to construct Highway 252, which would connect Interstate 805 and lnterstates 5 and 15."The project never materialized, Montoya says, because St. Jude, thinking of the school, put up a fight."So then the City of San Diego put dirt berms in to keep people from driving back here, to keep people from throwing trash back here, because it became a dump," Montoya said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several events and school systems in San Diego have had their immediate schedules altered due to the coronavirus.Several conferences set to take place in San Diego have canceled or rescheduled, while others don't have immediately plans to alter their plans.Schools systems are also preparing for the possibility of changing schedules and continuing the school year amid coronavirus worries.LATEST CORONAVIRUS UPDATESHere's a look at what events and schools have changed their schedules due to COVID-19 worries and what we're monitoring: (We'll update this list as soon as more information is available.)Events:The 34th National Institute on White Collar Crime has canceled its planned March 11-13 conference at Marriott Marquis San Diego, citing coronavirus fears. On its website, organizers with the American Bar Association (ABA) said the decision to cancel was made "as a result of the large number of speakers and attendees who were compelled to cancel their participation due to travel restrictions put in place by employers." The institute will not be rescheduled, according to ABA. The organization said refunds are being processed to attendees, but any travel reservations made will have to be handled individually.Leaders of the Experimental Biology conference set to take place April 4-7 canceled the massive gathering over COVID-19 as well.
