The temporary closures were also implemented to allocate cleaning resources to other sites. "Essential care for patients at these sites, and indeed all Sharp Rees-Stealy patients, will continue through video and phone visits or for patients who must be seen in person, at other Sharp Rees-Stealy clinics," the spokesperson said. The sites will re-open once the outbreak is over. "It is a consolidation of services which will allow the medical group to provide the safest and best care during this outbreak while also protecting our doctors and staff."Check with your hospital location to see whether or not appointments are being impacted. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Shipping companies expect another record setting holiday season, which gives would be thieves ample chances to steal packages off of porches. This year, FedEx expects to ship 400 million packages during the holiday season. UPS says they'll deliver 750 million. The U.S. Postal Service estimates 850 million packages and 15 billion pieces of mail altogether, and Amazon says in 2016 they sent more than a billion items world wide through Prime. But this year, more companies have ways for you to protect your deliveries.Ring doorbells are becoming popular. They have motion-sensing cameras that connect to your smartphone, alerting users to see anyone that comes to the door. Their Facebook page is full of videos where owners scared off would-be thieves with an alarm or by shouting through a connected microphone. The company is also encouraging people to download their app. Even if you don't have a Ring Doorbell, the app will send you alerts any time suspicious activity is reported in your neighborhood. Also new this holiday season is the Amazon Key, an option introduced this fall. For about 0, you can buy a starter kit that includes a camera and a special door lock. Delivery drivers would be able to put packages inside your home.Amazon also has lockers all around San Diego that packages can be sent to. You get a code to open them to pick up your package.Meanwhile, the US Postal Service says people who are worried about theft can ship packages using the "Hold for Pickup" option. Packages are kept at the post office to be picked up. You can also require a signature for delivery, or re-route a package to a different address while it's being delivered. They have more tips on how to protect holiday gifts here. 1776

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Since the deadly shooting in Parkland, Florida last month, the San Diego County District Attorney's office has seen 19 cases of local school threats.Nine juveniles so far have been charged criminally, according to District Attorney Summer Stephan."We can't assume that the threat is a joke," Stephan said.Stephan said that even though there is not an intent to carry out a school shooting, the person behind a social media threat could face a felony charge if they determine there is an intent to cause fear.Students could receive consequences ranging from custody time, community service, additional mental health services, restorative justice, or access to social media taken away ordered by a judge.San Diego County school threat timeline:"When they hear the judge mention taking their social media away, you can see their faces change over that," Stephan said. "It's important that parents and [the] community really talk to their kids."Stephan said investigators look at a number of factors when determining which cases rise to the level of charges."We have to look at do they have access to weapons? Have they acquired weapons recently? Have they visited websites that indicate a fascination with school shootings and violence?" Stephan said.Of the 19 cases, Stephan said eight cases "did not rise to the level" of criminal charges. However, she said they will work with the minor and the family to prevent a similar situation in the future. A couple of the other cases are still under investigation. 1533

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some of the nation's top Democrats in the country have gathered in San Diego for California's three-day Democratic Party Convention.About 3,400 Democratic delegates are expected to submit endorsements for California governor, U.S. senator, and other state offices during the convention.Among the leaders attending are Sen. Kamala Harris, D- California, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D- San Francisco, and Rep. Adam Schiff, D- California 28th District — who has sparred with President Donald Trump publicly in the past.RELATED: Workers protest outside Democratic Party ConventionRep. Schiff told 10News reporter Jon Horn that he believes Rick Gates's guilty plea will be a hot-button topic during the convention."[Mueller] now has another very important cooperating witness, somebody who was at the center of the Trump campaign, and someone who can shed a lot of light not only on Paul Manafort and the effort to launder money from Pro-Russian interests but also the inner workings of the campaign, so I think it’s a very important development," Schiff said.Gate, who is a former aide to the 2016 Trump presidential campaign, pleaded guilty this week to conspiracy and making false statements as part of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling during 2016's presidential election.Jon's report will air Saturday on 10News at 7 p.m.RELATED: San Diego hosts debate for gubernatorial candidatesAnother issue is likely to be gun controls, calls of which have increased in the last week following the Florida shooting at Marjory Douglas Stoneman High. Students from the school have led protests and social media calls for action from lawmakers."Our generation, their parent's generation have done them a horrible disservice by allowing the proliferation of military grade weapons onto our streets, but they’re taking matters into their own hands," Schiff said of those calling for new legislation.Sen. Dianne Feinstein slammed President Trump as she addressed attendees Saturday morning."I have never seen the presidency and I’m going to say it, as disgraced as it is today," Feinstein said.RELATED: California Democratic Party convention begins in San DiegoSaturday will feature speeches by gubernatorial candidates as well as candidates for other California offices. Programs on mobilizing women to run for office and vote, a celebration of black voters, a series of speeches by labor leaders and millennial elected and party officials are also scheduled. 2567

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Seven people are dead after contracting a flesh-eating bacteria linked to black tar heroin use in San Diego.County health officials said nine people who injected black tar heroin were admitted to county hospitals between Oct. 2 and Nov. 24 with a bacterial infection called myonecrosis, which is a severe soft tissue infection that destroys muscle. Of those victims, seven have died. The patients range in age from 19 to 57 years old.RELATED: Sixth death reported during San Diego's current flu season“People who use black tar heroin are not only at higher risk of dying from an overdose, but also more prone to developing myonecrosis and wound botulism,” said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer. One confirmed case of wound botulism linked to black tar heroin use was also reported in October — the first confirmed case in the county this year.Wound botulism, which attacks the body’s nerves, is also linked to heroin use. People who inject illicit narcotics like black tar heroin are at a higher risk of developing both infections, the county says. Last year, seven cases of wound botulism were reported in the county.RELATED: Dozens arrested after drug bust in East VillageIn Southern California, 13 probable and confirmed wound botulism cases — most of them linked to black tar heroin — have been reported since Sept. 1, the county says. The source of the black tar heroin linked to the infections is unknown and officials are currently investigating. Additional cases may be reported.Symptoms of severe myonecrosis can include severe pain; pale skin that quickly turns gray, dark red, purple, or black; foul-smelling blisters; fever; and increased heart rate. Severe instances can spread throughout the body and cause shock, leading to amputations or death if untreated.People who are experiencing drug addiction or substance use disorders are encouraged to seek help through the county's crisis line at 888-724-7240. 1955
