(KGTV) -- A man was arrested at a rest stop near Camp Pendleton after a woman called 911 to report that he kidnapped her during their date in Orange County.At around 12:30 a.m. Monday, the California Highway Patrol received an emergency call from a woman claiming she was on a date with a man in Costa Mesa when he allegedly took her against her will.According to the CHP, the pair were at a viewpoint off southbound Interstate 5 near the San Onofre Nuclear Station when she jumped out of the man’s pickup truck and called 911.As Camp Pendleton police and CHP officers responded to the incident, the man drove away. He later pulled over at a rest stop further down southbound I-5 and was taken into custody.No other information on the incident was immediately released. 777

Gavin Newsom signed landmark legislation allowing student athletes to get paid for their name, image and likeness.In approving the legislation, the governor noted multi-million dollar television deals and highly paid administrators, but no payment for athletes."Colleges reap billions from these student athletes' sacrifices and success but, in the same breath, block them from earning a single dollar," Newsom said in a statement. "That’s a bankrupt model – one that puts institutions ahead of the students they are supposed to serve. It needs to be disrupted.”NCAA rules render student athletes ineligible if they sign with an agent or take endorsement money. The organization said in a statement that changes are needed, but it should not be a state-by-state approach. "As more states consider their own specific legislation related to this topic, it is clear that a patchwork of different laws from different states will make unattainable the goal of providing a fair and level playing field for 1,100 campuses and nearly half a million student-athletes nationwide," the NCAA said. (KGTV) — Hundreds of thousands of unemployment debit cards in California have been frozen due to fraud, according to the state's Employment Development Department.The EDD says 350,000 debit cards have been frozen because of a variety of fraud indicators, including a high number of claims at a single address. It wasn't clear how much the debit cards were worth, but law enforcement officials say they've uncovered fake cards amounting to ,000 each, KABC reported."The Department’s top priority is to quickly verify the identity of any claimants in this group that may have been impacted by scammer attacks, while we work to shut down the potentially fraudulent claims," the EDD said.Impacted EDD claimants who may have their cards frozen are advised to take the following action:"Claimants who receive an email, text message, or mailed notice from EDD requesting them to provide identity verification documents should visit EDD’s website to login or register for a UI Online account and upload the documents through the Document Upload feature. The EDD has implemented various methods to help expedite the verification process. He had an opportunity earlier in life to meet some of the last living Civil War veterans, but he didn't go.Now 100-year-old Sidney Walton is giving people across the country the chance to meet one of the last living World War II veterans.Walton has been on a mission to visit all 50 states over the past year and a half, and he passed the halfway mark earlier this month. He's made it to 26 states, meeting with governors and anyone who will hear his story.He wants people he meets to remember the sacrifice World War II veterans made, especially as there aren't many left.
