San Diego (KGTV)- Thousands of students around the world walked out of their classrooms this morning and are taking a stand to help end climate change. Its a part of the “Youth Strike 4 Climate.” Hundreds of students from High Tech High School joined the international fight. Teens say they want a healthy environment for years to come. “This is everyone’s fight, everyone as a community. It's so important that we do something now,” says student Hailey Baiz. The teems say the movement is to let government leaders know that something needs to be done to curb global warming and cut gas emissions. Students at High Tech High say they’ve already reduced their carbon footprint and they want adults to follow their lead. “It is affecting all of us, and I feel that if we go to city hall, we’ll make our voices be heard,” says Frida Sanchez. As part of the international protest, teens are hoping to grab the attention of leaders at their local city halls. 962

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- As we get into the heart of fire season, there are big concerns for neighbors who live along a former golf course. The old Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club is full of dried brush. Neighbors say they are worried the owner is letting the property become a fire hazard. Chain linked fences block off the entrances to the now-shuttered golf course. "It's looking pretty rough," says neighbor Jeffery Acogido. He's been living in his Carmel Mountain Ranch home for almost 30 years. "The course was actually here before the residences."The brush from the site comes right up to neighbors backyards. As we continue to see, warmer weather neighbors say the unwanted vegetation is becoming a fire hazard. "The community is really concerned that it's just going to be a matter of time that something unfortunate might happen."There have been talks of developing the land. 10News made calls to speak with the owner about the neighbor's concerns but haven't heard back. A Development company tells 10News it is working on a plan for new homes on the property. 1076

Many people also wore collars, like RBG. A memorial on the steps of the Superior Court grew, filled with signs, flowers and candles.“It’s shaken some folks and we just want to come together and share our strength because ultimately we believe there is strength in unity,” said Lesa Thode, secretary for Women’s March San Diego.Thode said they wanted to give people a place to grieve and remember RBG together. She added that there will be more memorials in the near future that will be more accommodating for the Jewish community, who are in the middle of Rosh Hashanah. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Hundreds of families are sleeping at Liberty Station Saturday night to raise awareness and money for the homeless in San Diego. The event is an annual tradition for the The San Diego Rescue Mission. Families participating in the event sleep on cots and tents made of cardboard to experience what homeless experience on a daily basis. Participants also build hygiene kits, blankets, and pet packs for the homeless. This year, the event included a concert, food, and a prayer session to pray for those that don't have a home. All of the proceeds raised at the event go to the San Diego Rescue Mission. 636
