SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sign advertising a block party at the home of a registered sex offender is causing concern in Rancho Bernardo.“We would like to invite you and your kids to a neighborhood get together” read the sign, which was posted outside a home on Bernardo Oaks Drive in the Seven Oaks retirement neighborhood this week.“I always keep an eye on that house because I know there’s a registered sex offender that lives there,” said Susan Sutherland.Sutherland told 10News she looked up her community on the Megan’s Law website four years ago and found a listing for a neighbor who had had been convicted of lewd acts on a child under 14, according to Sutherland“I come from a background of abuse. I can’t live with myself if I allow a child to get hurt. I can’t live with that,” Sutherland said.The sign was posted by the contractor who recently renovated the home, which is owned by the man's mother. 10News reached out to Elor Energy, which said it had no prior knowledge of the man's past. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - After serving in the Korean War 67 Years ago, a San Diego veteran is preparing for the trip of a lifetime with Honor Flight San Diego. Chuck Willey says he's looking forward to experiencing the Washington, D.C. memorials with other veterans. "He mentioned about being accepted to the Honor Flight. But said the only problem is I don't have a uniform, and I said oh Chuck, I can help you with that!" said Patricia McKeon Suter, a relative of Willey. She put a call out for help on one of her Facebook groups - Buy Nothing Navajo, San Diego, CA - asking if anyone had a Korean War-era dress. Three days later, a neighbor answered her call."The reason why she really wanted to do it is her grandfather served in the Korean War in the Marines, and she didn't get to honor him, he passed away a while ago, and this was her way of honoring him. It brought tears to my eyes, which it's doing right now," said McKeon Suter.The neighbor found a uniform in Willey's size, pants, and a jacket.Willey's daughter continued the quest on eBay, where someone ultimately donated a hat and tie after learning Willey's story."Overwhelmed, just very, very thankful for all the help," said Mckeon Suter.Willey was also overwhelmed by the generosity of strangers. "I can't believe that people would do that," said Willey.Willey says he is proud of his service and grateful he'll once again be able to wear a uniform for this special occasion. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man thanked lifeguards Thursday for saving his life after he fell from the Ocean Beach pier.Adrian Castillo, 19, was drinking alcohol with his brother and friends in January when he suddenly fell backwards into the cold water.Castillo’s brother called 911 and after nine minutes, lifeguards Marc Brown and Jim Lockwood found him floating face-down in the water.Castillo was technically dead for five minutes.He spent three days in a coma and also suffered pneumonia from the cold water.“I have a scar in the back of my head,” said Castillo. “I have a couple of scars on my chest from grabbing on the poles.”Castillo is now fully recovered.“I’m very grateful,” said Castillo.  “If it wasn’t for them I probably would have been lost out in the ocean for like a month or something.”“We’re happy that you’re back and safe and alive,” Brown said to Castillo. “You have a second chance in life now.”San Diego Lifeguards, Police and city officials want everyone who heads outdoors this summer to be educated on rip current safety, drowning prevention, bonfires and know what they should not bring to our local beaches.The city has created a website to help guide locals and visitors to safety. 1230

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A year-long construction project to improve State Route 163 hit a milestone Tuesday morning with the completion of work on Friars and Frazee Roads.Crews arrived early in the morning, finishing up last minute preps before the big reveal. One noticeably new addition are signal lights put in place to help regulate the flow of traffic.The city also made improvements, like adding lanes on Friars Road. There are four lanes going east and four lanes going west. Changes to the on and off ramps from the 163 onto Friars Road may reduce the confusion and congestion caused by the old traffic pattern. Crews also added sidewalks and clearly-marked bike lanes. “We can separate and have a path for all modes of traffic including foot and bike traffic. So, it will be safer for everyone using Friars Road. It’s a safer facility now that we made these improvements," said a Caltrans spokesperson.The “Open for Business,” ceremony took place at 10 a.m. 969

The group says increased radiation is extremely harmful and can lead to seizures and heart failure.The city of San Diego accounted their 5G partnership with Verizon in April. The deal adds 0 million of infrastructure including new equipment cells on city-owned light poles. Police say the increased smart technology can help increase safety. Protesters today disagree."There’s no safety testing for this plan at all," said Susan Brinchman with the Center for Electrosmog Prevention. "I know why they didn’t do the testing, because there’s no way to safely implement this. Scientists are beginning to associate it with the development of cancer."A New York Times article released this week says 5G is actually safe. The article cites a Temple University researcher who says," 5G emissions, if anything, should be safer than previous generations,”.Mayor Kevin Faulconer says the agreement with Verizon will not only enhance cell service but also keep communities safer and cut costs for taxpayers.
