NEW YORK (AP) — The credit card companies Visa and Mastercard say they will no longer allow their customers to use the cards to charge for services on the pornographic website Pornhub. The website, which claimed 42 billion visits last year, has been accused of showing videos that depict rape, underage and nonconsensual sex — most prominently in an investigation published last weekend in The New York Times. Mastercard says it has terminated its relationship with Pornhub after its own investigation confirmed violations of standards. Visa says it is still investigating, but suspended use of the card on the site. New numbers just released by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) on Monday show the number of COVID-19 cases is going up sharply among a group of children.The new numbers show children now account for 9.5 percent of all COVID-19 cases across the United States with 476,439.“Children are not immune. Children can get this disease. Some children can get very sick from this disease,” said Dr. Sally Goza, president of the AAP. “When we first started with this, we were saying children were about 2 percent of all the cases, so they’re now 9.5 percent, so we are seeing a number of children that are cases.”Since May 21 COVID-19 cases in children have increased by more than 700 percent, while the total number of cases has risen 270 percent.In the same time frame, child hospitalizations from COVID-19 have nearly tripled that of the general population, rising 356 percent compared to 122 percent.Deaths have doubled in proportion, as well, as child COVID-19 hospitalizations have risen 229 percent compared to 115 percent for all age groups.“Kids are back playing sports. Some kids are back in school,” said Dr. Goza. “So, it would make sense that children would be increasing as well.”Dr. Goza says as we resume a more normal lifestyle a rise in children is expected, but it is the quick increase in proportions that is concerning. She says it comes down to one thing doctors have been preaching for months now: reducing community spread.“The whole thing of we need to decrease the community spread of this disease,” said Dr. Goza. “That’s what [these numbers] tell me is that we have not done a good job of decreasing community spread, because it’s now spreading to our young children.”Dr. Goza says the new numbers are not worthy of panic, but it is a sobering reminder that even those deemed most resilient to this disease are at-risk and need to heed precautions just as much as everyone else.“This virus is serious. NEW YORK CITY — Fire marshals arrested a 36-year-old man accused of setting off fireworks that burned down a Brooklyn home last month, officials said Thursday.Officials said that the video shows Damien Bend igniting the illegal fireworks on June 24. Bend is charged with arson, FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said."Illegal fireworks pose significant dangers to the safety of New Yorkers and their property," Nigro said. "Our Fire Marshals will continue to actively enforce the laws relating to illegal possession and sales of fireworks in New York City."Bend allegedly set off numerous fireworks, sending one of them through a window at around 9:25 p.m. last Friday night. Officials say he continued to light them, even as flames could be seen through the window of the 51st Street home.Video shows that one of the people with Bend appeared to be smoking a cigarette and filming himself as he shot off the fireworks.His friend, also filming himself, eventually noticed the house was burning at 9:32 p.m. — about seven minutes after the fire started.The video showed one of the men trying to contain the fire with a garden hose, to no avail."They were doing it in such a confined area it was just bound to happen," said FDNY Captain Michael Koco, director of safety education. "It was a recipe for disaster."The FDNY has set up one of a number of informational booths across the city to inform residents of the dangers of setting off fireworks, given the dramatic spike in complaints."A lot of times, the people that are being harmed are the bystanders," Koco said.In the last nine days, fire marshals in New York have arrested 17 people and confiscated nearly ,000 worth of illegal fireworks.It took 60 firefighters to knock down the blaze started by fireworks at 51st Street."They're illegal for a reason," Koco said. Netflix has apologized for images it used to promote an upcoming film on their streaming service after getting backlash online, and a petition to remove the film got almost 190,000 signatures.The movie, called “Cuties” in the U.S., follows an 11-year-old girl who joins a dance group. NEW YORK (AP) — A judge has ordered the release from prison of President Donald Trump's former personal lawyer, saying he believes the government retaliated against him for writing a book about Trump.U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein ordered Michael Cohen released from prison by 2 p.m. on Friday.Cohen sued the government earlier this week, saying he was ordered back to prison on July 9 because he was writing a book to be released before the November presidential election.Hellerstein said he believes Cohen's First Amendment rights were violated by the decision.Prosecutors say Cohen was returned to prison because he refused to sign an agreement describing terms of his home confinement, not because he planned to publish a book critical of Trump.Cohen was freed in May during a reduction of prison populations because of the coronavirus crisis.
