The publisher of an online news website says two of the site's reporters were arrested while covering protests of a grand jury's decision not to indict officers in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor. Daily Caller publisher Neil Patel says the two reporters were peacefully doing their jobs in Louisville, Kentucky, on Wednesday night when they were detained. Police on Thursday confirmed that Shelby Talcott was charged with failure to disperse and unlawful assembly and Jorge Ventura was charged with failure to disperse and violation of curfew. No further details were released by authorities.Talcott confirmed Thursday evening that she had been released, and that "it was a scary experience to be arrested for doing my job."Protesters poured into the streets around the country Wednesday to protest the Kentucky jury's decision. 841

The photographer whose photo of an engagement in Yosemite National Park sparked a viral manhunt, says he's found the mystery couple.Matthew Dippel was getting ready to take a picture of a friend at Yosemite's Taft Point earlier this month, when he saw a man get on one knee to propose to a woman. He didn't see any other photographers around, so he snapped a picture of the moment to give to the couple.Dippel ran over to find them, but they were gone by the time he got there."I must have just ran right past their friends that they had up there with them," he said.Dippel was in the middle of a road trip, but he posted the photo on social media when he got home to Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 17.The posts were shared thousands of times by people all over the world.Charlie Bear told HLN that he and his now-fiance Melissa stumbled on the post on Instagram last week."At first, I wasn't really sure it was us to be honest," Bear said. But they compared Dippel's photo with pictures they had taken to make sure.Dippel was a little skeptical, at first, because he'd gotten tons of messages from people claiming to be the couple, so he asked them to prove it."They sent me over iPhone screen shots of some of their friends that were up on that point that day, and they are wearing the exact same thing, and the photos are timestamped on the exact same day and the same time that I was there," Dippel said. "It just perfectly matched up to Charlie and Melissa."Dippel said he's still working out the details to get them a print of the photo.Bear said that it was actually their second proposal. He'd asked in February, but wanted to something personal, that would be memorable for them.Mission accomplished."Even though this was the second time around I was just as nervous as the first time, and I was even more nervous being high up on the cliff," Bear said. "I have a fear of heights, and I kind of overcame that for her."They're now planning an April wedding in Malibu, California. 2017

The National Rifle Association will host its annual convention this weekend, and on the first day of the convention, firearms will be barred from entering the Dallas facility hosting the NRA. According to a bulletin from the United States Secret Service, firearms, along with knives, laser pointers and a variety of other items will be banned from the facility. This is because Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to appear on Friday. Civilians are generally prohibited from carrying weapons when the Vice President or President is present, and a meeting of the NRA is no exception. "Due to the attendance of the Vice President of the United States at the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum on Friday, May 4, the U.S. Secret Service will be responsible for event security around the Arena at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center," a statement on the NRA's website said. "As a result, firearms and firearm accessories, knives or weapons of any kind will be prohibited in the forum prior to and during his attendance"CNN is also reporting that President Donald Trump will attend on Friday The firearm ban only extends for Friday's sessions, and not for Saturday or Sunday. Some survivors of the Parkland, Florida school shooting, and backers of the March for Our Lives movement said it is hypocritical that a group that decries gun control regulations won't be allowed to have its members carry weapons. "The NRA has evolved into such a hilarious parody of itself," Stoneman Douglas High School student said on Twitter in response to the weapon ban announcement. Leaders of the March for Our Lives have made the NRA a target of theirs, decrying politicians who accept campaign contributions from the group. "Wait wait wait wait wait wait you’re telling me to make the VP safe there aren’t any weapons around but when it comes to children they want guns everywhere?" Matt Deisch, leader of the March for Our Lives campaign, and a former Stoneman Douglas high school student, said on Twitter. "Can someone explain this to me? Because it sounds like the NRA wants to protect people who help them sell guns, not kids."A petition calling for Pence to cancel his appearance at the NRA convention has drawn nearly 45,000 virtual signatures. A similar firearm ban was enacted at last year's NRA Leadership Forum due to Trump's attendance.  2405

The House Committee on Labor and Education is holding a hearing on the topic of reopening schools amid the coronavirus pandemic on Thursday — about a week after Democrats on the committee said the White House blocked health officials from testifying during the hearing.Last Friday, CNN and Politico reported that Democrats' request to have CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield testify at the hearing was denied by the White House."Dr. Redfield has testified on the Hill at least four times over the last three months. We need our doctors focused on the pandemic response," an email from the White House to committee members read, according to CNN.Democrats claim that their request was for any high-ranking CDC official, not just Redfield. No Trump administration officials are testifying at Thursday's hearing. That includes Education Sec. Betsy DeVos, and members of the Coronavirus Task Force like Drs. Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx.According to the Committee's website, witnesses include Michael Hinojosa, the Superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District; Leslie Boggs, the president of the National Parent Teacher Association; Dr. Penny Schwinn, the Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Education and Dr. Sean O'Leary, the Vice Chair of the Committee on Infectious Diseases at the American Academy of Pediatrics. 1340

The pandemic has turned even more people into gamers. About one in three people worldwide play video games, according to the Entertainment Software Association. But it’s more than just fun.“And we've been able to make sure that we were producing things that not only brought people together in ways that made them enjoy the games, but connected them to each other because today 65% of people in America who play games play with other people,” said Stanley Pierre-Louis, President and CEO of the Entertainment Software Association.Video game popularity was already on the rise before COVID-19, supporting more than 425,000 jobs directly and indirectly related to the industry last year.It generated more than 90 billion in economic output, according to the Entertainment Software Association impact report. It includes jobs in engineering, coding, video game design, storyline and even professional players.“What that's meant is that within schools, you now have esports scholarships and in fact there are over 200 varsity sports programs around the nation, creating new opportunities for people to play professionally,” said Pierre-Louis.Education and jobs related to gaming can also lead to other opportunities outside the industry. The graphic design and visual elements that go into video games are as in demand in other fields.“So, if you learn video game design, you're able to also help with airlines simulations and so it's creating opportunities across many sectors,” said Pierre-Louis.Advancements rooted in the video game industry have found their way into other areas, including medical imaging and robotics, military training and simulation, and education. Those directly employed by the video game industry make on average 1,000 a year. 1757
