SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Sales of previously owned single-family homes and attached properties like condominiums and townhomes both fell more than 15 percent from October to November, according to data released Friday by the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors. Single-family home sales fell from 1,719 in October to 1,452 in November, a 15.5 percent drop. Attached property sales suffered an even steeper drop, falling 22.8 percent from 942 in October to 727 in November. Home sales have trended down in the second half of the year since the high water mark of more than 2,200 single-family homes and nearly 1,200 attached properties sold in June.Month-over-month home prices also fell from October to November, albeit not as drastically. Single-family home prices dropped 1.4 percent from 3,700 to 5,000, while attached property prices fell 5 percent -- from 8,000 to 7,000. Prices of single-family and attached properties have remained steady for most of the year, according to the GSDAR.``The end of the year and the holiday season are usually a sluggish time for home sale activity,'' said SDAR President Steve Fraioli. ``But it does appear that the pace of home price growth has slowed. Buyers should keep watch for price reductions on homes they want for Christmas.'' Year-over-year single-family home sales fell 19.4 percent, from 1,802 in November 2017 to 1,452 last month. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Power outages left tens of thousands of homes and businesses across San Diego without electrical service Tuesday.The first of the two blackouts began for unknown reasons about 11:15 a.m., affecting Fort Rosecrans, Lindbergh Field, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, the Midway area, Mission Bay, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, Point Loma and Sunset Cliffs, according to San Diego Gas & Electric.In all, the outage left about 13,000 utility customers without electricity, SDG&E reported.Repair crews had power restored to all the affected areas as of 12:30 p.m., according to the utility company.About 90 minutes later, another outage took place to the east, knocking out electrical service to roughly 8,300 addresses in Balboa Park, Center City, Chollas Creek, City Heights, Golden Hill, Normal Heights, North Park, Oak Park and University Heights, SDG&E reported.The utility predicted restoration of power to those neighborhoods by late afternoon. 976
SAN DIEGO (CNS) - One of nine servicemembers killed last month when an amphibious assault vehicle sank in the ocean near San Clemente Island was laid to rest Friday at Miramar National Cemetery.Lance Cpl. Chase D. Sweetwood, 18, was among those killed in the July 30 maritime training mission when the vehicle they were in took on water and sank.Family members say the Portland resident was born in San Diego and grew up in Chula Vista, and died one day before his 19th birthday.Sweetwood was honored during a Friday morning funeral that included military honors and a procession from the Patriot Guard Riders.Eight Camp Pendleton-based Marines, including Sweetwood, and a Navy sailor died in the mishap. Condo and townhome sales fell from 1,056 to 792, a 25 percent decrease.Year-over-year sales figures were also down, with single-family home sales falling 21.6 percent from 1,958 in September 2017 to 1,536 last month, and attached property sales down 22.7 percent from 1,024 to 792 listings sold.In total, previously-owned home sales in 2018 are down 9 percent compared to the first nine months of 2017."I'm hopeful that residential sales will continue along a mostly positive line for the rest of the year," said GSDAR President Steve Fraioli.
