SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Though the academic school year begins Monday, most UC San Diego students have a few more days before they have to log onto their online classes. But, that’s not the only changes students are dealing with this semester.Student Anthony Sanchez said nothing seems normal this semester. Going into his second year, he’s adapting to changes the university has made to try and prevent the spread of the coronavirus on campus.“I understand why they have to do it and I understand and agree with it. But from the student perspective, I’m 19, and it’s not really a fun thing to go through right now,” Sanchez said.Ninety percent of UC San Diego classes will be held virtually, and there will be many students like Sanchez that will be logging on from campus housing. He’s hoping this semester will go a lot smoother than last semester.Sanchez added, “This fall, I’m expecting it to be better in terms of how it’s structured. Because a lot of teachers were going on the fly and setting up lectures and scheduling as it was going. I’m expecting it to be more organized.”Sanchez told ABC 10News that the school was organized when it came to students moving into campus housing. There were about 7,500 students that returned to campus.The move-in days were spread out over 10 days to space people out. Each student could only bring two people to help them move.Each student was also given a coronavirus test, and Sanchez said he got his results within 48 hours.To help control the spread of COVID-19 on campus, the university also launched a voluntary program that utilizes smartphone technology to notify students if they may have been exposed.As for Sanchez, and what’s ahead for this fall quarter, he said he’ll just work on following the rules and saying positive to get through the year.“I guess I’m just going to have to make it the best that I can with what I can. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three dogs are getting a second chance at life. Wednesday night they were reunited with a local Marine - after months of being apart. Marine Corps Captain Kyle Watkins has been waiting months to see the dogs he rescued as puppies while stationed in Iraq. Wendy, Hesco and Rooster were flown to the states to be adopted by Watkins and another Marine with the help of SPCA International and Operation Baghdad Pups.Watkins says he couldn't help but feed and care for the dogs, who in turn began to look out for him; their big brown eyes and wagging tails bringing comfort during some rough times. Two of the dogs will stay with Watkins and his wife on their farm in Temecula, the third will be adopted by another Marine.  776

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Though there are still votes to be counted, data from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters is showing how residents voted on some of the most widely publicized races this midterm election.While the Registrar's data reports 100 percent of precincts, there are about 490,000 outstanding ballots waiting to be processed — so these numbers are not the county's official results.They do, however, show how San Diegans compare in statewide races.STATEThe race for governor was fairly close according to the data, with Democrat Gavin Newsom leading 53.87 percent to Republican John Cox's 46.13 percent.Cox conceded to Newsom late Tuesday after statewide numbers showed Newsom take the lead, winning 59 percent to 41 percent.RELATED: Nathan Fletcher, Jim Desmond win San Diego County Board of Supervisors seatsIn the race for U.S. Senator, San Diegans voted for Democrat Dianne Feinstein 53.6 percent to fellow Democrat Kevin De Leon's 46.4 percent. In California, Feinstein took about 56 percent of the vote.California's Attorney General race was squarely in the hands of Democrat Xavier Becerra in San Diego County, who gained 55.16 percent of the vote.LOCALAt a local level, the close races continued, with Democrat Mike Levin taking former Rep.
