SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Following a four-month-long sting known as "Operation Red Beard," dozens of people have been arrested for selling drugs in East Village.Thirty-two arrests have been made so far. The District Attorney’s office announced the arrests were made in multiple locations within a one-mile radius. The largest bust locations were on K Street and 17th Street, each with at least nine arrests. The D.A.’s office and the San Diego Police Department joined forces in April to launch Operation Red Beard after residents complained of the among of drugs being sold in the area. Those drugs included methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, oxycodone, and Xanax. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Green Flash Brewery has been sold to a new investment group, continuing a turbulent start to the year for the San Diego-based brewery.The company announced Monday the finalized sale to the group made up of "individuals with extensive experience" in craft beer and food and beverage industries.In a letter to shareholders published on The Full Pint, CEO Mike Hinkley said the company's lender, Comerica Bank, had "foreclosed on its loans and sold the assets of the company ... to WC IPA LLC."RELATED: National City adopts 'craft beer ordinance' to attract breweriesGreen Flash had reportedly taken on a loan for the development of a Virginia Beach, Va., brewery, which has also closed."As such, the Company no longer owns the Green Flash and Alpine businesses. Comerica Bank is currently conducting a separate process to sell the Virginia Beach brewery," the letter continued.The Virginia brewery closing followed that of Green Flash's Poway barrel-aging facility, Cellar 3, also closing this year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Holiday light displays are one of the best aspects of the holiday season.Thousands upon thousands of lights in some cases dress up homes and businesses throughout San Diego County, bringing out families and friends to enjoy the sights and sounds of the season.Throughout the county, San Diegans have numerous displays to drive to and admire. Some are snuggled in cul-de-sacs around town, others, larger events that continue the fun throughout the end of the year.Here's where you can catch San Diego's best light displays this season:(Links for display locations can be found by clicking the location in the map above.)Displays"Carlsbad Christmas House" can be found on Romeria Street in Carlsbad. Lights are on display from Dec. 2 to Dec. 31, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (closed rain days.) "Christmas on Knob Hill" is located at Knob Hill Road in San Marcos. Lights are displayed from Nov. 22 to Dec. 30, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Santa will make an appearance from Dec. 14 to Dec. 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. "Candy Cane Lane" covers Hickory Ct., Hickory St., Butterwood Ct., and Rockrose Ct. in Poway. "Christmas Card Lane" is located on Oviedo St. off Black Mountain Rd. in Rancho Penasquitos. "Belardo Lights" runs on Belardo Dr. through Dec. 27. The park will run daily light shows and entertainment with zoo staff and animals. "San Diego Bay Parade of Lights" brings out boats dressed in hundreds of lights to the bay, as they parade on the water Dec. 9 and 16. "Garden of Lights" at San Diego Botanic Gardens showers the garden in more than 125,000 lights, and hosts marshmallow roasting, a musical light show, and more. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - High school students are managing a new normal as they apply for colleges."This is a hot topic," says Matt Hunt, a guidance counselor at Rancho Bernardo High School. "This is something that kids are concerned about, parents are concerned about, people are curious about."The biggest adjustment for the 2021 fall application period is the use of standardized tests, like the SAT or ACT.Because of coronavirus concerns, many testing centers have been unavailable, making it difficult for students to take a test. To level the playing field across county and state lines, schools are either eliminating a test requirement or making it optional.According to FairTest, the National Center for Fair and Open Testing, more than 1,600 colleges and universities have made those tests "optional" for admission in the upcoming school year. That means students are not required to submit a test score, but can if they choose. FairTest also says more than 60 schools have gone "test-blind." That means they will not use a test score to determine admission, even if a student puts it in the application.In California, the Cal State system says they will be test-blind in 2021. The UC Schools initially said they would be test-optional, but a court decision over the summer forced them to be test-blind. The UC schools also say they plan to eliminate traditional standardized tests by 2025, and will write their own admissions test.RELATED: University of Californai to Stop Using ACT, SAT through 2024Without tests, counselors say students need to focus on their grades and personal statements and essays to stand out."I would tell students to focus on answering those questions candidly," says Tracy Wilson, the Director of College and Career Readiness for Grossmont Union High School District. "They need to answer them with their own student voice, because if they are a student who has struggled with those opportunities, that's the place to share the 'why.'"Wilson also says to focus your search and only worry about the application standards for the schools you plan to apply. "Colleges want a variety of students," she says. "The academics are important, but it's not the only thing... Put yourself out there try do your best. I really feel like colleges are going to be very welcoming on their campuses next fall."Hunt agrees, saying it's important to stay on top of any changes that occur in the next few months. He tells students to stay in communication with your school counselor and the admissions offices where you plan to apply. "You're going to apply to a handful of schools, you'll see what happens," says Hunt. "But there's a school out there, and an opportunity out there for everyone. So remember that." 2735
