(KGTV) - A suspect who led California Highway Patrol officers on a pursuit onto the 101 Freeway died of an apparent poisoning.The chase began Wednesday in Oxnard during a vehicle check, according to ABC-affiliate KABC. CHP officials said information came back on the car belonging to a rape suspect. When officers tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused, KABC reported.The chase continued northbound onto the 101 Freeway and ended in Ventura. The vehicle came to a stop in the center median, though CHP officers told KABC it's unclear if the suspect crashed of stopped the vehicle on his own.The suspect was seen motionless outside his vehicle, with the passenger-side glass shattered, according to KABC. Officers told the station they believed the suspect possibly poisoned himself.No officers were reportedly injured.Both sides of the 101 Freeway were initially shut down between Sanjon Road to Seaward Avenue, but some lanes have since reopened, KABC reported. 1028

Vanderbilt University has launched an investigation after several students and faculty members received a racist email promoting white supremacy.   Monday night, students went sent an email asking them to subscribe to a white supremacist email list. At this point, it appears that the email only went out to certain students who are part of a black on-campus fraternity organization.The N-word was used in the email and was followed by a sentence reading, "White Pride at Vanderbilt and Worldwide."Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, Vanderbilt officials Tweeted about the incident, saying it was "absolutely unacceptable." 633

Two daycare employees have been arrested in Sioux Falls, South Dakota after surveillance video caught them repeatedly abusing young children during nap time, police say.On Friday, Teresa Gallagher, 31, and Kenedi Wendt, 22, were both charged with 25 counts of abuse or cruelty to a minor.The two women were employees at Little Blessings Learning Center.A parent of one of the children who attended the daycare notified police in late February, according to KARE. The case was referred to the Department of Social Services who contacted the daycare. From there, the daycare reviewed the surveillance video and immediately fired Gallagher and Wendt.According to detectives who watched the video, the two were seen slamming the children to the ground, yanking them by their arms and stomping on them.Police spokesperson Sam Clemens said it wasn't clear what was causing the abuse — even a slight movement from a child could set the workers off, reports state. The children in the video are between the ages of 3 and 4. None of the children required medical care, Clemens said.Gallagher and Wendt were arrested on Friday and each placed on a ,000 cash bond. 1209

(KGTV) — A week after a cancellation of a holiday tradition at a cemetery in Valley Center, a community wrapped up their campaign to save Christmas for many military families.Because of COVID-related issues, the nonprofit that places more than 300 Christmas wreaths at military grave markers at Valley Center Cemetery announced Friday it wouldn't be able to this year."I just felt defeated ... My heart dropped," said Jenelle Brinemann.Brinemann, a local florist, decided to post on Facebook a call for donations to make wreath sprays, a smaller version of wreaths."It shows we have Christmas spirit still, even during this hard time," said Brinemann.A day later, her driveway was filled was with donated cedar, pine, and ribbons. More than 50 volunteers signed up to help assemble. Kids sent messages to attach to the sprays and on Wednesday, the project was completed."Great way for the town to come together ... shows there's still love in the world," said Brinemann.Among those who stepped up were members of the Green Knights Military Motorcycle Club, who saw our story on the wreath campaign, and volunteered their services.On this day, they escorted the volunteers to the cemetery."We felt we had to help them, because it was the right thing to do. We have to honor our veterans that have gone before us," said club member Tyler Nelson."It was overwhelming. The whole neighborhood turned out, cheering. They had posters. (KGTV) - A fire broke out Friday afternoon in Valley Center, threatening the small north San Diego County community.The flames were reported about 1:30 p.m. in brush near Miller Lane and Cole Grade Lane, an area surrounded by farms and homes.
