SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -San Diego is expecting the most powerful Santa Ana winds of the season this week. The winds are expected to pick up late Tuesday into Thursday. Cal Fire is urging residents not to let their guard down, but cautions, this is not the time to start clearing defensible space. "This week we really want people to tap the brakes on going out and clearing their property, we don't want them to start the next fire trying to do the right thing, the wrong way, at the wrong time, so please don't clear your property this week, focus on having an evacuation plan so you can get your family members, pets and livestock out when the need arises," said Captain Thomas Shoots, Public Information Officer for Cal Fire San Diego.RELATED: Check 10News Pinpoint Weather ConditionsFirefighters from San Diego, Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, and Cal Fire are helping to fight the fires in Sonoma County and the Getty Fire in Los Angeles. Still, Shoots said there is no strain on local resources. "We know that a lot of times, this time of year, we'll have multiple major events happen at the same time, so we can send out plenty of resources and still be staffed up in San Diego so we are watching that very closely and we want to make sure that if anything takes off here we have plenty of resources to draw from," said Captain Shoots. Crews are able to monitor all the fire activity across the state from the command center at the Cal Fire Headquarters in Rancho San Diego. "Regionally, we're looking pretty good, we're fortunate that both fires that we had on Friday we were able to jump on it, put a ton of resources on it, and we were able to stop those before they became major incidents," said Captain Shoots. According to Shoots, this has been a mild fire season compared to last year. "We continue to see fires this year, but most people haven't heard about a lot of the fires that we've had because we've been able to keep them small. With Cal Fire, our goal is to keep 95% of the fires at 10 acres or less, and we've been fortunate with that this year because the conditions have been milder," said Shoots. Right now, Cal Fire crews are working seven-day shifts, instead of the standard three."We've been pretty lucky with the fire activity around the state has been pretty light. Most other years, we've been hit pretty hard, and we start to get worn down this time of year, but 2019 has been relatively good to us. Their last minute pitches and speeches are happening this weekend at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. Republican candidates, staff, and volunteers say they are ready to shake things up in Sacramento. “I will be the loyal opposition to the wayward liberals of the Legislature,” Lt. Governor candidate, Cole Harris said, at the candidate forum. “Jerry Brown has certainly left a mark in our state over the years,” Judge Steven Bailey said. SAN DIEGO — Football icon Drew Brees gave a Temecula, California teenager the gift of a lifetime this week.The New Orleans Saints QB surprised Alex Ruiz at a Del Mar flag football event with a prosthetic leg."Surprise," Brees yelled into a microphone.Ruiz suffered a severe leg injury while playing football in October 2017. The quarterback at Linfield Christian School in Temecula was rolling out of the pocket when he was tackled and injured. The injury forced an amputation of Ruiz's foot.Brees presented the teen with a walking prosthetic Friday."If there's anything above cloud nine that's where I'm at right now," Ruiz said, all smiles after Brees asked him what he planned to do first with his new prosthetic.Brees added that once Ruiz gets the hang of it, he'll receive an athletic prosthetic as well with which to begin athletic training. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— The man accused of raping and torturing a woman in his home in Rancho Penasquitos faced a judge today. 32-year-old Uber driver, Seyed Hassan Kaboli pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of sexual crimes. Kaboli peaked through his holding cell, as the judge announced his fate. San Diego Police said Kaboli bound, raped, and tortured a woman, multiple times at his home in Rancho Penasquitos on May 19th and 20th. Sky10 footage showed the victim being consoled by the police on Monday, and she said she ran naked to escape 24 hours of brutal misery. The next day, Kaboli was arrested just north of National City. 10News obtained a copy of the criminal complaint, explaining Kaboli’s 12 felony charges. They include:(5) Forcible oral copulation (2) Rape(1) Rape by a foreign object(1) Torture(1) Assault with great bodily injury(1) Sexual battery(1) False imprisonmentThe complaint also suggests that there may be another person involved in the crimes. Under count three, it reads Kaboli “inflicted aggravated mayhem and torture on the victim and another person.”Under count eleven, it reads “said person was unlawfully restrained by said defendant and an accomplice.”In the courtroom, neither the defense nor the district attorney would comment on a possible third party.Still, the judge issued a protective order for the victim— a woman, whose relationship was not disclosed. But Kaboli’s defense attorney said she was not his Uber customer. “There is no prior relationship,” Kaboli’s attorney, Ryan Tegnelia said. “He is not denying that they came into contact with each other on the date of the incident. But before that, they did not have any relationship.”Tegnelia said Kaboli’s family describes him as an introverted man who keeps to himself. They said they are shocked at his arrest. “This obviously came completely out of left field for them, caught everybody by surprise,” Tegnelia said. The judge set Kaboli’s bail amount at 0,000.
