SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego may soon have more living spaces in commercial zones, due to ease of regulations approved by the San Diego City Council Tuesday.The amendments to the Live/Work Quarters rules allow for smaller living space in a place of business, add more business types that can include living areas, and authorize additional locations where Live/Work Quarters are allowed.The changes reduce the required minimum floor area from 750 square feet to 500 square feet, and eliminate the requirement for additional parking.RELATED: San Diego housing report focuses on region's needsTuesday’s amendments were part of Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s Housing SD reforms.“This is going to put underutilized commercial and industrial spaces to work in tackling San Diego’s housing crisis,” Mayor Faulconer said. “Lifting restrictions on housing will bring new life to old buildings and allow businesses owners to live where they work. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police officers were forced to abandon a pursuit Tuesday after learning a child was in the suspect's vehicle.The pursuit began after the suspect rear-ended an SDPD vehicle along 17th Street downtown around 1 p.m., according to police. The officer in the vehicle hit was fine.Police pursued the driver but terminated the pursuit after learning a child was in the car.SDPD ran the suspect's plates and found the vehicle was also stolen. During the pursuit, the suspect's vehicle collided with at least one other vehicle - losing the front right tire.No injuries were reported.The vehicle was abandoned in the 1300 block of Angelus Ave. in Lemon Grove. Police have yet to locate the suspect.The owner of the vehicle told 10News the car was stolen from Lakeside two days ago. He said he and his 12-year-old son worked on the vehicle as a project together. 943

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County will expand enforcement efforts to track down businesses knowingly operating in violation of the current public health order.After a bit of a lengthy back and forth, the board of supervisors voted unanimously to expand the current enforcement team.Currently, the county’s newly developed Safe Reopening Compliance Team focuses on egregious cases, outbreaks, and complaints.There are only ten staff members presently on the team, 13 more will be added on during phase one to continue looking into egregious cases and outbreak investigations.A Healthy Compliance Call Center also went live, where members of the public can report violations of the public health order by calling (858) 694- 2900.Tuesday’s vote to include a phase two will add 22 staff members at .8 million to follow up with businesses or entities that are still operating in violation of the public health order.The funding will come from the CARES Act.Two other enforcement options were on the table for supervisors consider, but they were voted down by the majority.Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county’s public health officer, has already sent several letters ordering businesses to close down until they comply with the order.A handful of gyms and churches in the county have stayed open inside despite being ordered to close or move their operations outdoors.This week the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office filed five misdemeanor charges against a Ramona gym owner for failing to comply. 1505

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego Police are investigating after a woman who was shot in Barrio Logan Friday night died.Police were called to the 2400 block of Harbor Drive around 9 p.m. after receiving reports of a woman, later identified as 36-year-old Stephanie Kinman, who was shot in the area.When they arrived, officers found Kinman on the sidewalk near a vehicle.The Kinman was taken to the hospital where she later died.Throughout their investigation, detectives learned that the woman was shot near a pizza restaurant on the 1000 block of Dewey Street before being driven to Harbor drive by a “male companion.”The man told investigators that the victim got into a fight with a man and a woman. After the fight ended, Kinman was shot while getting into her car, police say.The shooter hasn’t yet been captured. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, a Republican whose term ends next month, revealed he is considering running for governor in an interview Thursday with the Los Angeles Times.The race will be tough for any Republican, according to political analyst John Dadian, because registered Democrats far outnumber Republicans in California. Those registered with no party preference also outnumber Republicans. “The uphill is he’d have to pull in all the people that are neither democrat or republican, but it’s certainly possible," Dadian said.According to Dadian, many political pundits consider Faulconer to be the most viable Republican in a general election, citing his record as a moderate mayor who frequently cross the aisle to work with Democrats on issues such as climate change. Faulconer's PAC raised more than 0,000 in the first half of the year, with the biggest donations coming from outside San Diego, which Dadian says is another indication of Faulconer's viability.Dadian says he expects Faulconer to spend much of his time traveling the state once he leaves office to build his profile and introduce himself to voters away from his home base.
