(KGTV) — A Fresno man died after not long after taking part in a taco-eating contest at a Minor League Baseball game Tuesday.Dana Hutchings, 41, died shortly after arriving at a hospital following the contest at a Fresno Grizzlies game Tuesday, according to Fresno County Sheriff's Office.ABC-affiliate KFSN reported Hutchings was taken from Chukchansi Park by an ambulance where he had just competed in a taco-eating contest before the game started. According to the Associated Press, a witness said Hutchings appeared to be eating much faster than the other two contestants, swallowing tacos without chewing them.The witness added that Hutchings collapsed about seven minutes into the contest and hit his face on the table as he fell to the ground, the AP said.A cause of death has not been released. Fresno sheriff's spokesman Tony Botti told reporters an autopsy will be performed Wednesday. Botti added that paramedics had to clear Hutchings' airway of food when he was transported, but it wasn't clear how many he had eaten.According to the AP, the Grizzlies has canceled the World Taco Eating Championship scheduled for Saturday at the annual Taco Truck Throwdown. (KGTV) -- A group of women were rescued from a giant rainbow unicorn floatie in Minnesota Saturday.According to the local sheriff’s department, deputies were driving by a lake when they noticed the women stuck in the weeds atop the floaty.The department said in a tweet, “With a handful of laughs and some mad rescue roping skills they were pulled back to the dock!” 384

(KGTV) - A bill that would create the option for a third gender marker on California driver's licenses and birth certificates is heading to the state Senate.SB 179, also known as the Gender Recognition Act and introduced by Senator Toni Atkins, passed through the State Assembly 50-13 and will now return to the Senate for approval of amendments made in the assembly.If approved in the Senate, it will head to Governor Jerry Brown's desk for signing.RELATED: San Diegan third in nation to change gender to 'nonbinary'California Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego), a co-author of the bill, said the legislation aims to end the stigma and hardships Californians face when it comes to government documentation.“All too often, members of our transgender, intersex, and nonbinary community experience hardships and even stigma when their government documents don’t match their gender presentation," Gloria said in a release. "Despite the divisive rhetoric at the federal level, SB 179 demonstrates the inclusiveness of California and represents recognition from government that people can exist as more than just male or female."In addition to a third gender marker on state-issued identification documents, the bill is also designed to "streamline" the process for transgender, intersex, and nonbinary Californians to get those certificates.RELATED: Oregon becomes first state to allow gender-neutral licensesCurrently, changes to gender in California require proof of "clinically appropriate treatment." Atkins' bill does away with this requirement.Under the bill, anyone who chooses to change their gender would be allowed to "to attest, under penalty of perjury, that the request is to conform the person’s legal gender to the person’s gender identity and not for any fraudulent purpose."If approved, this portion of the bill would go into effect September 2018.In the case of driver's licenses, the bill would require an applicant to have the choices of male, female, or nonbinary, as specified, available. (KGTV) — A dog and tortoise had to be rescued from a Fontana property after becoming stuck in a hole together.The odd scene played out Wednesday, after San Bernardino County firefighters responded to a report of a man and dog falling into a hole. When responders arrived, the man was out of the hole but the dog, a German Shepard named Taylor, was still trapped, according to SBFD.Taylor had brought a blanket into the tunnel, dug by 70-pound tortoise named Godzilla. The blanket had wedged Taylor and Godzilla together and prevented them from getting free, firefighters say.Firefighters worked to untangle the two animals, digging away dirt from around the tunnel and coaxing Godzilla out with some lettuce until the two were free.Both animals belong to the property owner where the tunnel started, SBFD says. Both animals were unharmed. 846
