SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Father Joe's Villages hosted two Thanksgiving meal services Wednesday for homeless residents in San Diego, but perhaps no one was more thankful than the people who helped prepare the food.Three chefs-in-training in the Father Joe’s Culinary Arts Program spent days preparing the turkey dinner, which was served to an estimated 2,300 to 2,600 people.“They changed my life by far,” student Brian Anziano said of Father Joe’s.Anziano said he got involved in “stupid stuff” last year that left him homeless, but at the suggestion of friend, he began turning his life around with the help of Father Joe’s.Anziano enrolled in the 15-week culinary course, considered the most rigorous of the 10 workforce development programs offered by Father Joe’s.“They buy your shoes, they buy your pants, they buy your uniform,” he said. “Everything you need.”The massive Thanksgiving meal is kind of like a midterm, said Culinary Arts Program instructor chef Theresa Fields.“We work 14 hour days, 16 hour days. We’re always on call,” said student Lister Lane with a smile.Lane said his dream is to graduate and open his own restaurant. “And I want to give back to the homeless like they helped me,” he said.Past graduates have gone from these kitchens to jobs at Kansas City Barbeque, PETCO Park, the Hard Rock Hotel, Amplified Ale Works and more, FIelds said.Father Joe’s said about 80 students have graduated from its various workforce training programs so far, and they’re on pace to graduate about 100 students by the end of the year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Hours after Navy officials said all fires aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard were extinguished, smoke was visible coming from the vessel at Naval Base San Diego early Friday morning.Radio scanner traffic obtained by ABC 10News indicated crews at the scene reported at least two fires onboard the ship and called for evacuations at around 1 a.m. Friday. The 10News Breaking News Tracker observed smoke coming from the ship’s front end.At around 5 a.m., a Navy spokesperson confirmed to ABC 10News that no evacuations were ordered and all fires were out. The spokesperson said investigators were looking into the matter.On Thursday afternoon, Navy officials said all known fires aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard were declared out. The blaze on the ship erupted on the morning of July 12, and the firefighting efforts involving hundreds of crew members and thousands of aerial water drops took four full days.Navy officials said they will not know the exact cause of the fire until the ship can be inspected fully.ABC 10News learned Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Gilday will be at Naval Base San Diego on Friday to inspect the USS Bonhomme Richard.During a Thursday afternoon press briefing, Rear Adm. Philip Sobeck described the 22-year-old ship as ravaged -- its melted aluminum superstructure bent at a 45-degree angle -- but not dead in the water."The ship can be repaired," he said. "Whether or not it will be repaired will be determined."A total of 40 sailors and 23 civilian firefighters suffered various minor injuries, mostly heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation, while taking part in the battle to defeat the blaze, Navy officials said.The Bonhomme Richard is the third warship in U.S. naval history to bear the name, which means "Good Man Richard" in French and honors Benjamin Franklin's "Poor Richard's Almanac."The vessel has been homeported at Naval Base San Diego since the spring of 2018, when it returned from a six-year port switch to Sasebo, Japan, while becoming the command ship for Navy Expeditionary Strike Group Seven.City News Service contributed to this report 2114

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Fire crews responded to a small brush fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon in a highly residential area.According to firefighters, the blaze broke out on the 2500 block of Sumac Drive near Azalea Hollywood Park.Crews were quickly able to stop the forward rate of spread before flames spread to nearby homes.In total, the fire burned three fourths of an acre.  395
