SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen visited San Diego Monday, making her first local stop since joining President Trump's cabinet in December.Nielsen arrived in San Diego after a long flight from South Korea, where she helped represent the United States at the Paralympics. The trip also coincides with President Trump's arrival in San Diego Tuesday.Nielsen spent most of her day with the Coast Guard. According to the National Endowment for the Arts, the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum, San Diego History Center, San Diego Museum of Art and Visions Art Museum will all be offering free admission this year. The program has been offering free admission to military members and their families since 2018. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University said Tuesday it plans to pause a majority of in-person instruction for the fall term.The university noted that the changes will begin the week of Thanksgiving.“Faculty offering in-person courses are encouraged to shift to virtual, preferably by Friday, Nov. 20. All faculty should convert to virtual instruction no later than Wednesday, Nov. 25,” the university said.The university also said that no in-person research by freshman, sophomores, or volunteers will be allowed for the remainder of the fall semester.The changes come as San Diego County enters the state’s purple tier. Also this week, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that a majority of the state's counties would enter the purple tier, suffocating economic activity. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's Department says deputies arrested a wanted man on Sunday who was openly carrying a loaded rifle in the East County.Lakeside deputies were called after witnesses reported a man walking around with a loaded M4 rifle around his chest, according to the department. Deputies responded and took the man and his weapon into custody. SDSO said the man was a wanted parolee and that he had a felony warrant stemming from a case involving an assault with a deadly weapon.It is also illegal for a convicted felon to be in possession of a firearm in California, the department added.The parolee's identity was not released. 658
