SHENYANG, July 22 (Xinhua) -- China mobilized helicopters for the first time in a highway medical rescue drill in northeast China' s Liaoning Province, the provincial bureau of transport said Thursday.The rescue drill took place at 10 a.m. on the Shenyang-Dalian highway where a bridge collapse and traffic pile-up purportedly injuring dozens was simulated.Two helicopters, an S-76 from China' s Ministry of Transport and an Mi-17 from Shenyang Military Command, were dispatched to rescue those acting as wounded in the blocked section inaccessible to rescue vehicles.The rescue workers were airlifted to the crash site and successfully extricated two "trapped" bus passengers within three minutes before transporting them to nearby hospitals.More than 300 people participated in the drill organized by China' s Ministry of Transport and the provincial government of Liaoning.

High school graduated students aged 18 to 25 across Xinjiang will be enrolled in the college, giving lectures in both Ugyur language and Arabic. About 70 percent of the classes given are religious ones. Every students in the government-funded college will get a monthly dining subsidy of 120 RMB. Graduates of the college will receive a religious bachelor's degree and serve in mosques and Islamic associations across the region.-- Also in late May, the Ministry of Transport issued a statement jointly with Xinjiang's regional government pledging to spend more money-- which will cover 50 percent of the construction costs-- for road building in Xinjiang.-- On June 1 the regulation on reform of resource taxes in Xinjiang, which was jointly issued by the Ministry of Finance and the State Administration of Taxation, took effect, marking Xinjiang as the first region in China to begin such reform.The regulation provides a shift to taxing crude oil and natural gas by price, rather than volume. The reform aims to raise local revenue for the resource-rich Xinjiang.-- From June 9 to June 12, officials of central governmental departments, including the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Commerce and the National Development and Reform Commission, as well as officials of the China Development Bank, visited Xinjiang to inspect the development of local industries.

BEIJING, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese official Li Changchun called for stepped-up efforts to reform the countries cultural sector at a meeting held recently and joined by publicity and culture chiefs from China's central government.Li also urged more progress to be made in the development and prosperity of China's cultural industries.Li, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over the meeting. State Councilor Liu Yandong and Liu Yunshan, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the meeting.
