Kim Reynolds has signed an executive order granting convicted felons the right to vote, ending Iowa’s place as the only remaining state to broadly deny voting rights to felons.The Republican governor signed the order Wednesday after promising in June that she would take such action.Reynolds says she’ll continue to press the Legislature to pass a constitutional amendment restoring felon voting rights, which couldn't be reversed by a future governor. She proposed that last year but couldn’t get Republican state senators to support it.The executive order restores the right to vote for Iowans who have already completed their felony sentences. DENVER, Colo. — Voters in Denver, Colorado, overwhelmingly voted to pass Ballot Measure 2J to lift the cities more than 30 years old ban on pit bulls.Ballot Measure 2J passed with 64.5% voting to lift the ban and 35.5% voting to keep the ban in place.Passing the measure will allow the city to grant a provisional permit to pit bull owners as long as the owner microchips the animal and complies with additional requirements set by Denver Animal Protection.Denver Council member Christopher Herndon led the charge, proposing the idea to lift the pit bull ban in January.Denver City Council voted 7-4 to repeal the ban in February, which would have replaced the law with what could be best described as a “probation” for pit bulls. However, Mayor Hancock vetoed the ordinance just days later, saying in a letter he could not support the legislation because it did not, "fully addresses the very real risk to a severe injury that can result from attacks from these particular dog breeds, especially should they happen to a child."The law banning pit bulls was put in place in 1989 after 20 people had been attacked by pit bulls in the previous five years.One was a 3-year old who died from the attack in 1986. Hancock argued in his letter to the council that less than 20% of all pets in Denver are currently licensed, which "raises significant questions about the effectiveness of this proposed new system."Proponents said breed-specific bans do not work and enforcing the ban has cost the City of Denver more than .8 million.Aurora, Lone Tree, Louisville, and Commerce City still have bans on pit bulls, though Castle Rock repealed their ban in 2018. His campaign said he tested negative for COVID twice on Friday.Biden says he was not tested for the coronavirus on Saturday but will undergo such screening on Sunday.After attending Saturday evening Catholic Mass in Wilmington, Delaware, Biden was asked if he’d undergone testing for the virus that day and replied, “No, but I will tomorrow morning.”Biden’s campaign has not announced any public events for its candidate on Sunday.Bates said in the statement that Biden was not in “close contact” with Trump, his family members or his aides during their debate Tuesday night. Several people in Trump’s orbit have tested positive in recent days.Biden’s campaign also emphasized in its latest statement that Biden and his campaign for months have followed public health guidelines on wearing masks and social distancing. DETROIT — The Trump campaign announced Thursday it was dropping its lawsuit over the election results in Michigan. The news comes as two Republicans try to rescind their vote that certified Wayne County's election results, however there is no "legal mechanism" for them to do so.According to a statement from Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, the campaign wanted to stop the Wayne County results from being prematurely certified.“This morning we are withdrawing our lawsuit in Michigan as a direct result of achieving the relief we sought: to stop the election in Wayne County from being prematurely certified before residents can be assured that every legal vote has been counted and every illegal vote has not been counted," Giuliani said in a statement.It is also being reported that President Donald Trump reached out to the two Republican members of the Board of Canvassers in Wayne County before they sought to rescind their votes.The two Republican members initially voted against certification Tuesday night, then reversed course and voted for certification just ahead of the deadline. Now they are trying to rescind those votes."There is no legal mechanism for them to rescind their vote. Their job is done and the next step in the process is for the Board of State Canvassers to meet and certify," said a statement from Michigan's Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.Monica Palmer, chair of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers, and William Hartmann, one of two Republicans on the Board, filed signed affidavits Wednesday night demanding to rescind their "yes" certification votes."I fully believe the Wayne County vote should not be verified," Palmer said in an affidavit. "The Wayne County election had serious process flaws which deserve investigation. I continue to ask for information to assure Wayne County voters that these elections were conducted fairly and accurately."After the two Republican members of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers initially caused a deadlock Tuesday, they eventually agreed to certify the county's vote on the condition of an audit.The motion to hold another vote came following hours of public comments condemning Republican canvassers' decisions to vote against the certification."Late in the evening, I was enticed to agree to certify based on the promise that a full and independent audit would take place," Palmer wrote. But just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Board filed a motion and voted to certify the results under the stipulation that Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson does a comprehensive audit of the election in the county.The canvassers' initial vote came after many Detroit precincts were found to be out of balance — meaning the number of votes is not in line with the number of voters. DENVER – Funeral services for a pregnant Colorado woman and her two daughters, who were killed earlier this month and dumped at an oil and gas site will be held Saturday in Pinehurst, North Carolina.The family of 34-year-old Shanann Watts, her daughters, 4-year-old Bella Marie and 3-year-old Celeste Cathryn, and Shanann’s unborn child, which the family said was going to be called Nico, announced in the Sandhill Sentinel that funeral services would be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Pinehurst.“She was out pride and joy, a true gift from God,” Shanann’s father and mother, Frank Rzucek and Sandra Onorati Rzucek, wrote in her obituary. “We were so blessed to have such a joyful and wonderful daughter whose beauty was that of a doll.”The obituary says Shanann battled Lupus during life and that Celeste’s birth was exciting because of her struggle with the disease. She and her family were originally from North Carolina.The family asks people to donate to the Lupus Foundation of America, the Frederick (Colo.)
