ALABASTER, Ala. — A photographer in Alabama was able to capture the beauty of a rare yellow cardinal that is taking the internet by storm. Jeremy Black took the photograph of the rare yellow bird in Alabaster, Alabama.According to Geoffrey Hill, a bird curator at Auburn University in Alabama, the bird is a rare male northern cardinal that has a "one in a million" genetic mutation that makes its red feathers turn yellow. Additionally, the mutation is so rare, that only one is seen each year in the United States."This yellow cardinal displays a rare mutation causes the metabolic process to produce a different type of pigment than the typical red coloration," Black wrote on his Facebook page.Black says that he was able to photograph the yellow cardinal after his friend, Charlie Stephenson, noticed the bird at her feeder in January. According to National Geographic, on February 17, Black spent five hours in Stephenson's backyard with a camera in hand, hoping the beautiful bird would make a second appearance. "As soon as it landed, I was starstruck," Black told National Geographic. A school trip for the eighth grade Mentor, Ohio Public Schools students to Washington D.C. was set and ready to go. Students were excited, bags were packed, lots of money was paid. But on Tuesday — the day before the trip — Discovery Tours, the company contracted by the school district to handle the trip, canceled. What's 511 students multiplied by 5 each? That's 2,505 paid.Discovery Tours told Mentor Public Schools it had to cancel the trip because the company was unable to receive final confirmation for the hotel rooms. The school district said it contacted the hotel itself to get more information."We were told by hotel management that, under advice from the hotel's legal counsel, all they could disclose to us is: Discovery Tours was unable to meet the contractual obligations," Superintendent Bill Porter wrote in a letter to parents.However, the school district said Discovery Tours told them otherwise. (KGTV) — Sheriff's deputies are investigating reports of a suspicious vehicle near an East County school.Students walking to and from Joan McQueen Middle School Wednesday said they saw a vehicle slow down next to them as they were heading to school. This was near Victoria Drive and Sneath Way, according to the Alpine Union School District. The students became concerned and reported the incident, according to San Diego Sheriff's investigators.The driver or passenger didn't talk to or touch the students. The school district added that there were two instances in which the reported vehicle slowed near students as they walked.The school district sent a message out to parents saying, "we have asked all campuses to be vigilant about safety. I hope you will partner with us in our efforts to keep our children safe by appropriately talking about this incident at home and discussing how to practice proactive safety skills." 950
