BEIJING, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- China's electronic information industry expanded at a slower pace during the first half of 2012, with profits falling rapidly, official data showed Monday.
China saw robust trade with Russia, which joined the World Trade Organization this year, and Brazil, a major exporter of iron ore and other raw materials. Trade with Russia and Brazil surged 24.4 percent and 10.9 percent, respectively, to 36.3 billion U.S. dollars and 33.23 billion U.S. dollars.
China is the third country in the world to use its own technologies to send a female into space.
According to the island's agricultural authorities, natural disasters triggered by Typhoon Saola have cost Taiwan an estimated 218 million new Taiwanese dollars (7 million U.S. dollars) in agricultural losses as of 4 p.m. Thursday.
Multiple earthquakes, measuring up to 5.7 on the Richter scale, struck Zhaotong's Yiliang county and its neighboring areas in Yunnan and Guizhou provinces, killing 81 people and injuring more than 800 others.
