SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While families navigate this holiday season with an extra bit of care in the form of social distancing and face coverings, there are still opportunities to visit Santa Claus with the kids around the county.This year, many malls and amusement parks are keeping the tradition of visiting with Santa alive in some fashion, whether it be socially distanced in person or online.At Westfield and Simon malls throughout the county, visits will require face coverings, physical distancing, reservations, and offer hand sanitizer for visitors.But for families who aren't comfortable visiting the big man in person this year, virtual visits are available. The Otay Ranch Town Center and Chula Vista Center in the South Bay, and The Shoppes at Carlsbad in North County are offering personalized greetings and storytime with Santa. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — TwitchCon guests in San Diego for a weekend of gaming won't be celebrating the three-day convention with at least one headliner.Rapper Lil Nas X suddenly dropped out of TwitchCon's annual convention party set for Saturday night at Petco Park. The musician announced on Twitter he was canceling his performance to take some time off."It’s been a wild last 7 months and im ready to take a little time off. sorry to everyone attending twitchcon or the sandbox music festival, i will not be there. i love u guys and will make it up to you some way," the 20-year-old rapper tweeted.RELATED: Gaming, video streaming unite as TwitchCon returns to San DiegoLil Nas X was scheduled to perform alongside Blink-182, Au/Ra, Y2k, and Madeon. San Diego (KGTV)- A music teacher at Grossmont High School reached out to the community after students were in need of guitars for the upcoming school year. The students will be practicing distance learning.Music teacher Jeremy Cook says the support has been overwhelming.“The response from the community has been absolutely amazing. I’ve met so many people. I’ve driven across the county picking up the guitars,” says Cooke.Cooke has received 117 guitars for students to practice.“Last year we had upwards of 120 guitar students total,” says Cooke. “There’s a hope to be able to offer guitars to students who aren’t able to take the class.”A couple of weeks ago, Cooke went to pick up a donation from a woman named Pam Anderson in Mission Hills.“I took it back to my car and popped it open. I was flabbergasted at what was inside. It was a 1969 Fender Telecaster.”These guitars range from ,000 to ,000. Cooke says he had to let Anderson know its value.“She said that she appreciated the honesty, and she still wanted to donate the guitar to the school,” says Cooke. “It was her husband’s who passed away. She said she knew he would want the same thing.”The guitar will be used for student performances and in the newly renovated music room when students are allowed back on campus.Cooke says he appreciates all of the donations. As a thank you to Anderson, the teacher has set up a GoFund Me page to help her during the pandemic.Cooke says there is still a need for guitars for the upcoming school year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With rising home prices and amid an affordability crisis, a weaker housing market is being predicted in 2019 by the California Association of Realtors.The report seems to confirm a report published earlier Thursday morning by Trulia. Home sales are already seeing a slump compared to 2017 and the trend is expected to continue in 2019, with an expected 3.3 percent drop.“While home prices are predicted to temper next year, interest rates will likely rise and compound housing affordability issues,” said C.A.R. President Steve White.“Would-be buyers who are concerned that home prices may have peaked will wait on the sidelines until they have more clarity on where the housing market is headed. This could hold back housing demand and hamper home sales in 2019.”Meanwhile, the median home price is forecast to increase by 3.1 percent to 3,450 in 2019, following a 7 percent increase in 2018.The association added that the surge in home prices due to supply shortages is finally taking a toll on the market. Adding more uncertainty is outmigration, according to the association.Outmigration is the result of the state’s housing affordability crisis, which is predicted to be a concern for the California housing market in 2019 as interest rates continue to rise.According to the organization, 28 percent of homebuyers moved out of the county they previously lived in, up from 21 percent in 2017.The association warns that outmigration will continue as long as home prices remain out of reach and interest rates rise in the upcoming year. 1574
