(KGTV) -  The safety driver behind the wheel of an autonomous Uber vehicle that struck and killed a woman in Arizona is a convicted felon, according to ABC affiliate KABC.The driver, identified as 44-year-old Rafael Vasquez, was in the self-driving car when it fatally hit 49-year-old Elaine Herzberg as she crossed an unlit Tempe, Ariz., roadway outside of a crosswalk with her bicycle.Court documents showed someone with the same name and birthdate served more than four years for two felony convictions: One for making false statement when obtaining unemployment benefits and the other for armed robbery, according to KABC.RELATED: Police release video after Uber self-driving car hits, kills womanWhile the crash has raised concerns over Uber's driver screening policy, the company states "everyone deserves a fair chance" in regards to employing those with a criminal record.Uber said Vasquez met the company's hiring requirements, KABC reported. A Bay County, Mich. man was bitten by a pet cobra and given 28 vials of antivenom from Florida's Miami-Dade County.According to the Detroit Medical Center, the 26-year-old Pinconning Township man was bitten on July 14 by an Albino Monocled Cobra he was keeping as a pet.He was taken to the hospital after becoming nauseated, vomiting and drowsy. He then suffered respiratory paralysis and stopped breathing from the venom, where he was taken to the Detroit Medical Center where he was given the antivenom.Toxicology at the DMC first contacted the Toledo Zoo and eight vials of general antivenom were sent to the DMC and administered to the patient within a half hour of arrival. The antivenom covers some but not all poisonous snakes, and it had little effect on the patient as he continued to worsen.After, toxicology contacted the Miami-Dade Emergency Response Team which dispatched 20 vials of antivenom and administered to the patient.The monocled cobra is native to the Asian countries of India, China, Vietnam, and Cambodia, as well as Malaysia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, Nepal, and Thailand. Its venom is highly potent and among the fasting acting of all snakes', with death arriving as soon as an hour after a bite, according to Reptiles Magazine. 1272

(KGTV) -- The state’s Department of Motor Vehicles is reopening its remaining field offices that were shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Starting Thursday, June 11, 169 DMV locations across California will reopen for customers that have appointments and provide service for limited transactions that require an in-person visit.DMV field offices were closed in March due to the coronavirus pandemic but select locations around the state began reopening in May with limited service.Although field offices will reopen, many services -- including behind-the-wheel drive tests – are not available for the time being. Officials said behind-the-wheel testing will return in the coming weeks.DMV officials are urging customers to continue “to use its online services, expanded virtual services and other service channels to complete transactions, including eligible driver license and vehicle registration renewals.”Among the limited services being offered at field offices:Paying registration for an impounded vehicle due to registration-related issuesReinstating a suspended or revoked river licensepplying for a reduced-fee or no-fee identification cardProcessing commercial driver license transactionsApplying for a disabled person parking placardsAdding ambulance certificate or firefighter endorsement to a driver licenseVerifying transit training document to drive transit busProcess DMV express customers for REAL ID transactions, if time and space allowVehicle verificationsDMV officials said the department is rescheduling any appointments that were canceled during the closure and notifying customers of new appointment dates.At each field office, employees will be wearing face coverings, practicing physical distancing protocols, and will have access to disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer, field shields, gloves, and soap and water.All customers will be required to wear a face covering and remain at least six feet apart from others when in line. Officials said, “Customers are offered a text message that will allow them to wait outside the building until notified they are ready to be served.
