VERO BEACH, Fla. — A Florida man is accused of coughing, sneezing and spitting inside a Best Buy in Vero Beach after he was asked to put on a mask.According to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, Alton Ashby, 51, approached the Geek Squad counter maskless and was asked by an employee to put on a mask.Deputies said Ashby dumped a package of masks on the store floor and then refused to leave.According to authorities, Ashby began sneezing, coughing and spitting on surfaces around the store.Deputies said Ashby walked to the front of the store carrying a soda, "which he sprayed everywhere as he was walking out."According to deputies, Ashby said he was "upset and is going through a lot this year and got carried away at the store."This story originally reported by Victoria Lewis on WPTV.com. 810

(KGTV) - All Tribes Charter School in Valley Center has found a solution to the problem of kids paying too much attention to their cell phones in class.They've started using Yondr pouches to lock up phones at the beginning of the school day."These things are more distracting than hormones for teenage kids," says All Tribes Charter School Administrator Michelle Parada. "Attention to the cell phone is not attention to school."READ: Study: Separation from cellphone causes anxiety for someAccording to a Pew Research Survey in 2018, 95% of teenagers say they have a cell phone, and 45% of them say they're online "almost constantly." Fifteen percent say they've experienced cyber-bullying.Parada says that addiction has led to poor attention in class, declining grades and cyber-bullying.All that changed when the school deployed 120 Yondr pouches last spring.Every day, the kids turn off and lock their phones in a pouch when they arrive at school. They keep the locked pouch with them all day long. The pouches get unlocked by administrators at the end of the day.Predictably, the kids don't like it."I like having my phone, having easy access," says Senior Melani Maxcy. "And with this thing, I can't do it.""This school didn't need it really," says Willow Robinson. "Yeah, we'd post every once in a while in class, but that's when we were just sitting around and talking."Parada says it was also tricky getting parents to adjust, many of whom like to keep in touch with their students throughout the day."They're probably the biggest perpetrators of calling their kids during the day. Constantly," says Parada. "They're constantly calling, messaging or texting their kids."Parada tells parents if there is an emergency and they need to reach their student, they can still call the school office. She says administrators are usually able to reach a student within a couple of minutes.Despite the push-back, Parada says the new policy is helping. Grades and attention are up, and cyber-bullying has gone down."All of the picture taking, video taking, SnapChat, Instagram has stopped," says Parada, noting that the kids can't post if they don't have a phone. "Kids are compelled to take pictures, to take videos and start shooting them out to other people."She adds it has also cut down on disruptions in class and food deliveries to the school.A spokesperson for Yonder tells 10News that demand for the product has grown in Southern California through the last year. In San Diego, there are now four schools using the pouches: All Tribes Charter School, Caliber Beta Academy, Mark Twain High School and the San Diego County ROP.The schools pay a fee to lease the pouches and the unlocking tool. Two naval aviators have been declared dead after their FA-18 fighter jet crashed off the coast of Key West, Florida, on Wednesday around 4:30 p.m., the US Navy announced on Twitter.The two-person crew ejected, Navy Cmdr. Mike Kafka said. The Navy added that the jet, which was on a training flight, is part of Strike Fighter Squadron 213, known as the Blacklions.Rescue crews recovered both aviators from the water, the Navy said in a tweet. They were taken by ambulance to Lower Keys Medical Center.The jet crashed on approach to Naval Air Station Key West, and the cause of the crash is under investigation, according to the tweet."We are sad to report that both aviators have been declared deceased," the Naval Air Forces' tweet said. "Their families are in our prayers. U.S. government officials are putting an early end to a study testing an Eli Lilly antibody drug for people hospitalized with COVID-19 because it doesn’t seem to be helping them.Independent monitors had paused enrollment in the study two weeks ago because of a possible safety issue. But on Monday, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which sponsors the study, said a closer look did not verify a safety problem but found a low chance that the drug would prove helpful for hospitalized patients.It is a setback for one of the most promising treatment approaches for COVID-19. President Donald Trump received a similar experimental, two-antibody drug from Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. on an emergency basis when he was sickened with the coronavirus earlier this month.In a statement Lilly notes that the government is continuing a separate study testing the antibody drug in mild to moderately ill patients, to try to prevent hospitalization and severe illness. The company also is continuing its own studies testing the drug, which is being developed with the Canadian company AbCellera.Antibodies are proteins the body makes when an infection occurs; they attach to a virus and help it be eliminated. The experimental drugs are concentrated versions of one or two specific antibodies that worked best against the coronavirus in lab and animal tests.Lilly and Regeneron have asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to grant emergency use authorization for their drugs for COVID-19 while late-stage studies continue.
