SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Despite having the most coronavirus cases of any local university, large off-campus parties continue to be an issue for San Diego State University and nearby residents.Students living off-campus have been attending large parties, according to neighbors. As of Saturday, SDSU had 1,184 COVID-19 cases, 767 of those cases being reported in off-campus students.Locals living in the College Area says many students continue to ignore public health orders and hold large, loud parties with no physical distancing or mask wearing."It's really frustrating and at this point, I feel like there's not a lot that we can do because you know those people, they're just going to keep doing what they're doing," one neighbor said.In a statement to ABC 10News' reporting partner KPBS, San Diego State says more than a hundred notices of violations have been delivered to residences in the college area.The university also contracts elite security to keep an eye on the neighborhood surrounding the school for any violations. If a security guard notices a party, they call police to respond.As of Friday, Cal State San Marcos had reported 18 total COVID-19 cases, three of which were off-campus. At UC San Diego, there have been 106 coronavirus cases since March 1, with three being reported since Oct. 1. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the fourth consecutive year, the USS Champion has won a contest held between ships at Naval Base San Diego over which crew could put together the best decorations."It's just a great opportunity for the crew to really come together, enjoy some time not focusing on the day to day, but to really express themselves," said the ship's commanding officer, Lt. Commander Matthew Yokeley.The Champion, an Avenger-Class Minesweeper, was covered in decorations. Lights, bows, and bells lined the railings and were struck all the way to the top of the mast. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Flooding from a fire service line threatened Wednesday to buckle a portion of a North Park street, blocks from the sites of several significant pipe breaks.The rupture was reported about 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Polk Avenue and Kansas Street. The road buckled about 12 inches and water spilled onto half the roadway.Within an hour, the water department reached the scene to evaluate the situation. A city spokesperson tells 10News the break was on a fire service line, the pipe connecting a fire hydrant to a water main. They also said no one is without water, and that the break would be repaired the same day. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of men in high heels strutted through downtown San Diego on Saturday morning to support victims of domestic violence.The 11th annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event started with the mile walk and ended with a family festival featuring face painting, live music and more.“It is a lighthearted way to bring awareness to domestic violence,” said Heather Frinlay, the Chief Operating Officer of the YWCA of San Diego County. The morning of family fun raised money for programs that provide victims of domestic violence resources like housing, counseling, and legal aid.“This is not a private issue; this is a community issue,” said Frinlay. “We still have one in four women, and now one in seven men experiencing domestic violence in their lifetimes.”San Diego County reported more than 17,000 incidents of domestic violence in 2017. 871
