WASHINGTON — As COVID-19 cases skyrocketed before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the coordinator of the White House coronavirus response warned Americans to “be vigilant” and to limit celebrations to “your immediate household.” For many Americans that guidance has been difficult to abide, including for Dr. Deborah Birx herself. The day after Thanksgiving, Birx traveled to one of her vacation properties on Fenwick Island in Delaware. She was accompanied by three generations of her family from two households. Kathleen Flynn, whose brother is married to Birx's daughter, told the Associated Press she came forward about the travel out of concern for her own parents, and acknowledged there was family friction over the incident. Birx confirmed to the Associated Press she traveled to the Delaware property, but declined to be interviewed for the report. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has asked Americans not to travel over the holidays and discourages indoor activity involving members of different households.Birx joins a growing list of high-profile leaders on the federal and state level who have been criticized for appearing to disregard their own rules and warnings for slowing the spread of the coronavirus. Wall Street does not like the mixed messages coming out of the White House on trade.The Dow fell 600 points, or 2.4%, on Friday afternoon. The Nasdaq plunged 3%, while the S&P 500 retreated 2.4%.The Dow closed for the day down 588 points.Stocks had been trading higher earlier Friday, but the market turned sharply lower following conflicting messages coming out of the Trump administration about trade.While White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow sounded an optimistic note about China talks on CNBC, trade adviser Peter Navarro was simultaneously warning on CNN of higher tariffs if issues aren't resolved during the 90-day negotiating period."We've gotten a hodge-podge of mixed messages from people in the same administration," said Art Hogan, chief market strategist at B. Riley FBR. "We're not sure who we're supposed to listen to."Investors also received a softer jobs report on Friday. The Labor Department said the United States?added 155,000 jobs in November, missing expectations for a gain of 200,000. But the labor news did not trigger a selloff and some traders likely figured the slowdown in hiring will reduce pressure on the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates.Worries about the negative consequences of the trade war and hopes for progress have launched Wall Street on a wild ride of late. The US-China ceasefire sent stocks soaring on Monday. But doubts about the truce helped knock the Dow nearly 800 points into the red on Tuesday. And then the Dow plunged 785 points on Thursday before staging a huge comeback."It doesn't feel like much of a ceasefire," said Ed Yardeni, president of investment advisory Yardeni Research. 1697

WASHINGTON (AP) — Melania Trump has announced plans to renovate the White House Rose Garden. It's the outdoor space steps away from the Oval Office. President Donald Trump has been using the Rose Garden a lot more lately for statements and news conferences in the age of coronavirus. The first lady says the renovation will make the garden more accessible to people with disabilities, and make improvements for audiovisual and broadcasting needs. It will also provide improve drainage and conditions for the plants and flowers. Since moving to the White House, Mrs. Trump has renovated the White House bowling alley, and refreshed the Red and Blue Rooms, among other projects. 684

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Kellen Winslow Jr. affirmed his innocence to 10News Thursday as he appeared in court to face a third charge of rape.The son of a Chargers legend, Winslow pleaded not guilty to the alleged rape a 17-year old girl in 2003.  10News was able to capture a few words with Winslow as he walked to his car in the parking lot outside court. When reporter Jim Patton asked about the new rape charge, Winslow responded it would all come out in court. Then asked if he was innocent of the other allegations of raping two women in Encinitas, Winslow said, "I'm advised by my lawyer to not speak on much. But yes, I am innocent." The new charge involves a woman who was 17 years old at the time. Winslow was 19. She claims he raped her while she was unconscious. Winslow Jr.'s attorney has previously said their relationship was consensual.  Thursday, the defense repeated a request for the woman's psychological history.Thursday's court hearing lasted no more than 15 minutes as attorneys debated whether this new case should be tried along with the other two rape allegations. Winslow Jr.'s attorneys argued the new charge could prejudice the other two.The judge allowed the cases to remain joined for now for efficiency but said the trial judge would make the ultimate decision.  Winslow is currently free on a million bond, while required to wear a GPS monitoring bracelet. His trial date was set for March 19th, 2019. 1507

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — It was a heart-pounding moment at a North County gas station after a homeless woman gave birth inside the bathroom. “I just seen some lady come out with a baby saying 'we need help this lady just gave birth',” said clerk Alex Ascencio. Ascencio had just started his shift Wednesday when the woman came inside of the store. When Ascencio saw the baby, he jumped into action, tending to the baby and dialing 911. “I just sat her down and make sure she had a pulse and that she was breathing; she was perfectly fine.”Ascencio says the woman tried to leave the store without the baby, but he convinced her to stay until paramedics arrived. Ascencio says he aspires to be a paramedic and his co-workers are praising him for his quick thinking. 770
