LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- While many drivers say a new Caltrans project in the East County is making SR-67 safer, some say it's literally making them sick to their stomach.Long considered one of the most dangerous roads in San Diego County, Caltrans is currently working on a million project to improve safety between Lakeside and Ramona.  A key part of the project is the installation of flexible posts called "channelizers" in the median.  Channelizers are bright yellow so they can be easily seen, helping prevent cars from drifting across the center into oncoming traffic."I think it'll save lives. I really do," Andy Jones tells 10News. Jones regularly drives the 67 for work.However, since the channelizers began being installed over the last few weeks, there have been a handful of reports of drivers becoming queasy.  One man told 10News the way the light reflects off the channelizers at night makes him feel nauseated.  The Ramona Sentinel reports that two people have called the Ramona Planning Board with similar complaints.Driver Donna Gines says the channelizers make her feel safer on her regular drives from Rancho Bernardo to Barona, but she can understand whey they could make some people feel ill."Some people don't react well to reflectors," she said. "It's kind of like a strobe light, maybe? And maybe it does make them dizzy."Caltrans tells 10News they have not received any direct complaints. However, after 10News raised the concern, Caltrans decided to do a review of how the channelizers are functioning.  They plan to send crews at different times of day to see if any changes need to be made. 1663

LAKEVIEW, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan couple whose large family attracted attention by growing to include 14 sons has welcomed their first daughter nearly three decades after the birth of their first child. Kateri Schwandt gave birth Thursday to Maggie Jayne, who weighed in at 7 pounds, 8 ounces and entered a world filled with 14 older brothers. Jay Schwandt tells the Detroit Free Press that he and his wife, both 45, “are overjoyed and beyond excited to add Maggie Jayne to our family.” They live in the rural community of Lakeview, about 30 miles northeast of Grand Rapids. The couple’s oldest child, 28-year-old Tyler Schwandt, says his parents thought they would never have a daughter after 14 sons. 710

(KGTV) - The J Company is telling the story of America's founding fathers, with a twist.This spring, they're staging the classic musical 1776 with an all-female cast."We need to support our young women and let them know they can be anything and anybody they want to be if they just put their minds to it," says director Joey Landwehr, who came up with the idea of casting only young women in roles portraying men.The musical tells the story of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and the rest of the Continental Congress as they debated the merits of breaking free from England during the Revolutionary War. Some of the actors say they see the relevance to today's political climate in the story."Even though I know I'm pretty set on my political views, I do understand that other people have their own and that we need to find that middle ground," says Camille Le Saux, who will play Ben Franklin in the show. "That's what this play tends to focus on, and I think that's very relevant today."Others say it's empowering to see young women playing strong, influential men."It's showing that women can be powerful and women can be strong, and women can be angry and upset and passionate," says Caroline Egler. She's playing John Adams, a role she's wanted to tackle since she first learned of the show in 8th grade."Reading through the script again, I realized how beautiful it is and how human it is," Egler says.Rehearsals began this week at the Lawrence Family JCC in La Jolla. Larry King has gone public with a recent cancer diagnosis.In a statement to CNN on Thursday, King's rep said the legendary talk show host was "diagnosed with stage 1 Adenocarcinoma, the most common type of lung cancer, through a routine chest examination.""He immediately underwent a successful surgery to remove the upper lobe and lymph node," the rep added. "Larry returned to work two weeks later, having just celebrated his 60th year in broadcasting. He looks forward to working for another 60 years and thanks everyone for their well wishes!"King, 83, talked to "Extra" on Wednesday about discovering over the summer he had lung cancer."Part of the checkup is a chest X-ray and that is the protocol," King said. "I do it every year, it's always normal. Then the doctor says, 'I see a little spot here. Let's do a CAT scan.'"The CAT scan led to a PET scan, he said, and doctors found a spot they wanted to remove.King underwent surgery on July 17 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles."They took it out," he said. "It was malignant."The former CNN talk show host said he had no idea prior to his annual exam that there were any issues."If I had not had the chest X-ray, it would have progressed," he said.King has been open about his health issues in the past, including a 1987 heart attack and bypass surgery months later. He also has type 2 diabetes.In 1999, King was diagnosed with and successfully treated for prostate cancer.A former smoker who quit following his heart attack, King said he's sharing his lung cancer diagnosis to help others."Get a chest X-ray," King said. LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV)- The search for the missing 12-year-old girl, who authorities believe drowned in San Vicente Reservoir, continues. According to San Diego Police, the girl’s family is from Canada visiting a local couple for the weekend.  267
