BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese official Li Changchun Thursday called for reform and innovation in promoting the development and prosperity of the country's animation industry.     Li, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark during his visit to the first China Animation and Cartoon Arts Exhibition held in Beijing.     Li said the animation and cartoon arts has played a very important role in enriching people's cultural lives and cultivating new economic growth area.     The country's animation industry is standing at a crucial point, Li said, urging practitioners in the industry to work hard and continue reform and innovation to push for the development and prosperity of the industry. BEIJING, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China Saturday "strongly" urged the United States to respect its core interests and grave concerns, and immediately stop arms sales to Taiwan to avoid harms to the Sino-U.S. cooperation.     The U.S. arms sales to Taiwan undermined China's national security as well as the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei told Xinhua in an exclusive interview, once again voicing China's "resolute opposition" to the sales.     This was the sixth official announcement made by China over the issue in a week, as spokespersons with the Foreign Ministry and the Defense Ministry had repeatedly denounced the U.S. move.     He said that in response to the U.S. government's recent approval of Raytheon Company and Lockheed Martin Corp. to sell weapons to Taiwan, the Chinese side had made solemn representations with the U.S. side.     The two U.S. Companies' sales plan was part of the arms sales package announced in October 2008 under the Bush Administration, which included weapons and equipments such as Patriot III anti-missile system.     The sales of weapons to Taiwan seriously violated the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, in particular the principles enshrined in the August 17 Communique, said He, adding China's stance on this issue was always "consistent, clear and unswerving."     He said the Taiwan issue was "the most important and sensitive issue at the core of Sino-U.S. relations."     Noting the Sino-U.S. relations had maintained a steady momentum of development since U.S. President Barack Obama took office, He said this progress was hard-earned and should be valued by both countries.     China hoped the United States would work with China to earnestly implement the important consensus on developing bilateral relations reached by leaders of the two countries, strictly abide by the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques and principles of the joint statement issued last November, enhance bilateral dialogue, coordination and cooperation in various spheres, so as to push forward the sound and steady development of bilateral ties, said He.

BEIJING, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- China has told its enterprises to be prepared for competitions while the establishment of the Free Trade Area between the country and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is only a month ahead.     "Chinese enterprises should make full preparations for competitions brought by zero-tariff products imports from the ASEAN," Xu Ningning, executive secretary general of China-ASEAN Business Council(CABC), said on Wednesday at a symposium for entrepreneurs in machinery, auto mobile and steel sectors.     The upcoming FTA, scheduled to be established on Jan. 1, allows zero-tariff on 90 percent of products traded between China and the ASEAN.     Xu also urged Chinese enterprises to conduct adequate market research and pay close attention to the latest policies in different ASEAN countries to improve the quality and efficiency of bilateral trade.     "After entering the ASEAN market, companies should abide by local industry regulations and establish sound reputations for quality and service instead of blindly pursuing profit by any possible means," Xu said.     The establishment of the FTA will create massive business opportunities for Chinese enterprises as it will provide an access to the ASEAN market with 600 million population, according to Xu.     The FTA will boast a combined population of 1.9 billion and a combined gross domestic product (GDP) close to 6 trillion U.S. dollars, making it the third largest free trade area following the North American Free Trade Area and the European Free Trade Area.     CABC is one of the five main cooperation and dialogue organizations between China and the ASEAN, and it consists of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the ASEAN Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the national business leaders and enterprises and experts representatives from the ASEAN countries.
