I think it was gusting 40 or 50 miles an hour that day," Matt Kawiecki said.The damage to Kawiecki's car was estimated at more than 0, but Bird tells him they're only willing to pay a fraction of that cost. "I offered to get multiple quotes, to see if this is a fair price — no response," said Kawiecki. He says the company was responsive when he first called to report the damage, but after he got the quote to fix the damage they stopped responding as much. "The quote came back at over 0. So I was a little surprised, just from a dent. Bird offered to pay 25 percent," Kawiecki said. He says it isn't even about the money, he's upset that the company won't take responsibility for the damage their scooter caused. "It's not about the money. I could care less about the money," Kawiecki said. "When they are not owning up to something as small and petty as 0 or 0 for a billion evaluated company, it's a little bit surprising."In the meantime, Kawiecki is urging other drivers to park away from scooters, so they don't have a similar incident. WRTV television station in Indianapolis reached out to Bird Scooters to ask them about the company's obligations to cover damage caused by unoperated scooters. It's likely that a Sacramento sheriff's deputy who struck a protester with a patrol SUV Saturday night didn't realize he had hit someone, Sheriff Scott Jones said during a press conference Monday.The patrol SUV struck a woman as she and others gathered in the street to denounce the killing of Stephon Clark, then left the scene, according to video of the incident. The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department."I haven't spoken to the officer about the incident, I'm not even sure that his statement has been taken," Jones said, adding that there has been no change to the deputy's duties at this point during this investigation. IRVINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A new study claims that hookah could be more dangerous than other forms of smoking. According to the University of California study, one in five college students in the US and Europe have tried it. According to researchers who conducted the study, one draw from a pipe can contain as many substances as an entire cigarette. “Hookah mainstream smoke – that which is directly inhaled by the user – has many toxic and harmful chemicals, such as nicotine, which can lead to tobacco addiction; irritating carbonyl compounds; and benzine, a known carcinogen,” said lead author Veronique Perraud, a UCI assistant project scientist in the Department of Chemistry. “And due to the greater volume inhaled for every puff and the longer duration of a smoking session, the hookah oftentimes delivers a higher dose of those chemicals to the smoker.”The study also found that the hookah produces an outsized amount of carbon monoxide mainly due to the burning charcoal. According to the university, the study is the first to look at ultrafine particles. Particles researchers say pose a significant health risk. “One of the big myths about hookah usage is that the water in the bowl actually filters out the toxic chemicals, providing a shield for the smoker,” Perraud noted. “In the study, we show that this is not the case for most of the gases and that, possibly due to its cooling effect, water actually promotes ultrafine particle formation.” 1465

IRAPUATO, Mexico (AP) — Local Mexican officials again helped thousands of Central American migrants find rides Sunday on the latest leg of their journey toward the U.S. border.At a toll plaza to the west of the central Mexico city of Queretaro, where the group spent Saturday night, police prevented migrants from waylaying trucks on their own, but officers did help them find vehicles for rides.The government of Queretaro said via Twitter that 6,531 migrants had moved through the state between Friday and Saturday.
