POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's deputies Saturday were investigating a homicide at a North County apartment complex.Sheriff's deputies responded to the Sofi apartment complex on Midland Rd. at about 1:45 a.m., deputies said.Early Saturday morning, the San Diego Sheriff's Department received a call from Pomerado Hospital in Poway of a man who was brought in with a gunshot wound. Just after 3:00 a.m, Michael Walker died at the hospital.10News spoke to a neighbor, Christine Zobel. She was woken up at around 1:45 am after hearing commotion upstairs. "There was an altercation in the apartment on top of my children's room, and there was a gunshot that went through the wall and killed a man that was sleeping," Zobel said. Minutes after the shooting, Zobel saw Walker's wife drive him to the hospital. But he did not make it. "That could've gone through the floor and into my kids' room, or anybody around us could've been affected from this reckless event," Zobel said. Saturday afternoon, Sheriff's Homicide detectives arrested Manuula Save for murder. The investigation is ongoing. PORTLAND, Ore. — The mayors of six U.S. cities are appealing to Congress to make it illegal for the U.S. government to deploy militarized agents to cities that don’t want them. The mayors of Portland, Oregon; Seattle; Chicago; Kansas City; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Washington wrote to leaders of the U.S. House and Senate pushing for limits on agent deployments. The move came Monday as a top official said federal militarized officers would remain in Portland until attacks on the U.S. courthouse cease. Early Monday, U.S. agents repeatedly fired what appeared to be tear gas, flash bangs and pepper balls at protesters.Federal agents have been patrolling Portland over a little over a week. They were sent to the city by the Department of Homeland Security as part of President Donald Trump's crackdown on the defacement of federal property, statues and monuments.Protests have taken place nightly in Portland for 60 straight days, since the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis. While the vast majority of those demonstrating have been peaceful, a federal courthouse has been defaced with graffiti, some protesters have thrown fireworks and other projectiles toward officers and others have attempted to breach fencing surrounding the courthouse.Federal agents have responded by using tear gas, pepper balls and the use of batons to disperse protesters on several occasions. They've also grabbed protesters off the streets and detained them in unmarked cars.Protests have escalated in intensity since federal agents have arrived in the city, which has forced Oregon Gov. (KGTV) -- The Blue Sky Ecological Reserve will reopen Saturday after it temporarily closed when a four-year-old was attacked by a mountain lion, according to The California Department of Fish and Wildlife.The department received a call around 2:40 p.m. Friday about a child with scratches on his back and thigh.Park officials say a family was on a hike when the incident occurred. "The child was with a lot of family members which is a good thing and it sounds like the family separated into two groups and the child may have been darting back and forth," Fish and Wildlife Public Information Officer Tim Daly said that could have made him vulnerable to the attack.The City of Poway notified the department of fish and wildlife.He was taken to the hospital, Daly said, to collect evidence in hopes of finding the mountain lion who attacked him.Daly said more than 50% of California is mountain lion habitat, adding it's important not to leave out pet food and keep pets and children close while outdoors in mountain lion territory. 1053

PORTLAND, Ore. — The mayor of Portland, Oregon, was tear gassed by federal agents late Wednesday as he stood with protesters at a fence guarding a federal courthouse. Mayor Ted Wheeler said it was the first time he'd been tear gassed and appeared slightly dazed and coughed as he put on a pair of goggles someone handed him. Earlier in the night, Wheeler was jeered as he tried to rally demonstrators who have clashed nightly with federal agents sent in by President Donald Trump to quell ongoing unrest in the city. "I think it's important for me as the mayor and the police commissioner to be out here where people are demonstrating, hear their concerns, not only about the federal government, but also about our local (government)," Wheeler said.Though Wheeler stood in solidarity with protesters on Wednesday night, he's faced criticism from protesters from deploying similar tactics against demonstrators prior to the arrival of federal agents.Wheeler was among 13 mayors of major U.S. cities to sign an open letter to the Trump administration Wednesday, asking that federal agents not be sent to deter crime.
