SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several San Diego casinos say they are upping the ante when it comes to hygiene and addressing coronavirus worries among guests. To keep gamers pushing buttons and chips with peace of mind, some casinos are taking precautionary measures like installing more hand sanitizer stations, staff training, increased hand cleaning signage, and cleaning gaming machines more often.Sycuan Casino Resort in El Cajon says in addition to the above measures, they've also put anti-bacterial soap in all restrooms and are also using a casino chip company to clean and sanitize all their gaming chips.RELATED: Some Las Vegas casinos have closed their buffets amid coronavirus outbreak"With the recent onset of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Sycuan Casino Resort is taking every precaution to protect both our guests and Team Members. We are closely monitoring updates in regard to this matter and as an organization we will continue to take additional precautions and safety measures to minimize risk," Sycuan General Manager Robert Cinelli said in a statement.Lakeside's Barona Resort & Casino has taken similar steps. Assistant General Manager Troy Simpson said in part that the casino is "stepping up efforts" in all areas of the resort."We are significantly increasing the frequency in which our casino, hotel, restaurants and all player and staff areas are deep cleaned with disinfectant. We are also increasing the frequency of disinfecting all touch points including: push plates and door handles; slot machines; table game rims; chairs; escalators; all touch points in hotel rooms and restaurants; counters; and many more," Simpson's statement read in part, adding that the property's “triple-stage" air filtration system includes ultra violet lights that disinfect the air.RELATED: Padres: No changes to schedule over coronavirus at this timeBarona added that they have not see a noticeable effect on business due to worries over the virus.Caesar's Entertainment, parent company of Harrah's Resort Southern California in Valley Center, has appointed a team to meet daily to develop ways to protect guests from coronavirus.Harrah's tells 10News it's following Caesar's policies, which include reminding employees to washing their hands often, posting hand-washing signage for guests, increasing the frequency high-touch surfaces throughout the property are cleaned, and encouraging potentially sick employees and guests to stay home."The health authorities tell us that, to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, we must: wash hands frequently, heighten cleaning practices, avoid contact with sick people, stay away from work when ill and not travel to areas with high infection rates," Caesar's response policy reads. 2734

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Steele Canyon High School is one of two evacuation sites run by the American Red Cross for people affected by the Valley Fire, but they're not housing people like they normally would. Instead, they're acting as a resource facility for families like the Roberts'."Mine was one of the only houses in the neighborhood that went up," Alana Roberts said. Her weekend was turned upside down when she got word of the Valley Fire, which went from 100 to more than 10,000 acres in less than 48 hours, claimed her home. "I was in Oceanside and we raced to get in and as soon as we were in our truck, cops said 'you need to go now'", Roberts recalled. She was able to gather just a few belongings. "It was me and my husband who went in and grabbed what we could and let animals free. I had chickens and I couldn’t get them all."And now, she's one of the dozens of people seeking relief and a place to sleep at one of American Red Cross' evacuation sites."Someone gave me dog food, food for the kids, and we have the restrooms so we can kind of wash up." These sites typically provide shelter for families seeking relief, this time around, they couldn't."Outdoor sheltering is basically what we’re doing, people are in the lots in their cars and are acquiring hotel vouchers to put people in lodging," said Earl Potts with the American Red Cross. So far, 60 people have received hotel vouchers but last night they ran out, forcing people like Roberts to hunker down in their cars, trailers, and RVs. "We figure the family will stay together, and hunker down together."The Red Cross said as the holiday weekend comes to an end, they're hoping to get at least 200 more rooms available. "We’re able to provide meals at certain times of day and a place to park and sleep which makes it less but more of a priority situation."Alana said she's just thankful her family is safe and is going to return to what's left of her home once they're given the go-ahead."I don’t know if its truly set in. This morning my husband made me coffee and I thought about my brand new coffee maker I got for Christmas. I get camping coffee to drink now, I don't think it's really set in." 2179

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Seven people are dead after contracting a flesh-eating bacteria linked to black tar heroin use in San Diego.County health officials said nine people who injected black tar heroin were admitted to county hospitals between Oct. 2 and Nov. 24 with a bacterial infection called myonecrosis, which is a severe soft tissue infection that destroys muscle. Of those victims, seven have died. The patients range in age from 19 to 57 years old.RELATED: Sixth death reported during San Diego's current flu season“People who use black tar heroin are not only at higher risk of dying from an overdose, but also more prone to developing myonecrosis and wound botulism,” said Wilma Wooten, county public health officer. One confirmed case of wound botulism linked to black tar heroin use was also reported in October — the first confirmed case in the county this year.Wound botulism, which attacks the body’s nerves, is also linked to heroin use. People who inject illicit narcotics like black tar heroin are at a higher risk of developing both infections, the county says. Last year, seven cases of wound botulism were reported in the county.RELATED: Dozens arrested after drug bust in East VillageIn Southern California, 13 probable and confirmed wound botulism cases — most of them linked to black tar heroin — have been reported since Sept. 1, the county says. The source of the black tar heroin linked to the infections is unknown and officials are currently investigating. Additional cases may be reported.Symptoms of severe myonecrosis can include severe pain; pale skin that quickly turns gray, dark red, purple, or black; foul-smelling blisters; fever; and increased heart rate. Severe instances can spread throughout the body and cause shock, leading to amputations or death if untreated.People who are experiencing drug addiction or substance use disorders are encouraged to seek help through the county's crisis line at 888-724-7240. 1955
