It was her second surrogacy for the same family when complications arose and she died while giving birth, the campaign explained. The baby Reaves was carrying survived.Reaves leaves behind two children, Gage and Monroe, and her husband, Chris. The organizer of the GoFundMe campaign is hoping the community will "be there for Michelle’s family like they would for us.""I can’t even begin to imagine what her husband Chris and her two babies are going through so I want to start this page to help raise money for help with the kids, for Chris as they all adjust, funeral services, or anything at all to make it as easy as we can on them," wrote organizer Jaime Herwehe. "For those of you who didn’t have the pleasure of knowing Michelle, she will always be known for the love she had for her family. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sweetwater Union High School District officials say their revised budget will not have a major impact on students, but some parents are getting notices from schools informing them of cuts to some afterschool programs, tutoring and summer school. The discovery of an accounting miscalculation over the summer led to a million budget shortfall that the district rushed to fix. On Oct. 8, the district’s board unanimously approved a revised and balanced 2018-19 budget. The San Diego County Office of Education has until Nov. 8 to approve it.Changes to the budget include furlough days for numerous district employees, elimination of paid training days for teachers and cuts to the adult education program. Other cost-saving measures in the budget include energy conservation strategies and a reduction in travel expenses.RELATED: Sweetwater Union High School District passes revised budgetIn a statement, district officials said: “Throughout this budget challenge, we believe that we have remained pragmatic, honest, and transparent in our efforts. This process has also enabled us to implement new practices and protocols that will help prevent this situation in the future.”CLICK HERE TO READ REVISED BUDGETDistrict spokesman Manny Rubio said the revisions would not have an impact on district students. He also said schools in the district would not see major changes or reductions in staffing or programs.“There will be no major changes, and student impact will be minimized as we go forward with the plan,” Rubio told 10News.However, last week, officials at Rancho Del Rey Middle School sent a letter to families informing them of “cutbacks that may affect some parents as they plan for their students outside of school activities.”In the letter, Rancho Del Rey officials said a tutoring program at the school would no longer be offered “due to a district-wide budget shortfall.” The letter went on to say summer school in June 2019 would not be offered. 1987

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Federation of Teachers (CFT) is urging school districts across the state to roll back in-person classes and return to distance learning.CFT President Jeff Freitas said with most of the state back in the purple tier of restrictions, it only makes sense to go back to virtual learning until there is a slow in the spread of COVID-19.“We need to get these numbers down," said Freitas. “We think the best thing right now is for schools to stop their plans of reopening and, or if they are reopened, to close their schools and go back to remote.”Three Vista Unified School District schools -- Rancho Buena Vista High, Vista Magnet Middle, and Madison Middle -- returned to virtual learning Tuesday after positive COVID-19 cases were reported. It’s a back-and-forth the district has been dealing with since reopening for in-person instruction last month.“There should be more of a statewide approach and definitely a national approach,” said Freitas. “We have been asking that they take the lead on this.”San Diego Unified School District thinks it has come up with an answer. During its State of the District address Tuesday evening, Superintendent Cindy Marten said the district created a federal relief plan to get all schools nationwide back on track for the next two years. The plan asks for federal investment in education that would be centered around equity and undoing learning loss.“What would the San Diego strategy look like at the national level? We have outlined that plan, shared it with the Biden administration,” said Marten. The plan includes a COVID-19 testing, tracking, and tracing strategy for students and staff, and 0 billion in direct relief to schools. Marten said the money would offset the lost state revenue and increased operating costs.“We call for full funding for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and full funding for the Impact Aid program to invest in military families,” added Marten. “We call for tripling Title I funding and making the fund permanent to support low-income families.”“I know that San Diegans will step up and do whatever it takes to make sure no student is left behind,” Mayor-elect Todd Gloria said during a special appearance at the address.SDUSD’s plan has been sent to the Biden transition team for consideration.
