Several online retailers were sold out of masks, which were being sold for more than 10 times their original price. Users of the popular Weibo social media platform urged others to wash their hands and stay home.The first cases late last month were connected to a seafood market, and transmission was thought to be occurring from animals to humans. Authorities previously had not confirmed human-to-human transmission.In addition to 258 cases in Wuhan, more than 20 have been diagnosed in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong province in the south and Zhejiang in the east. Four cases have been confirmed overseas among Chinese travelers in South Korea, Japan and Thailand. A Taiwanese woman who just returned from Wuhan tested positive for the virus, Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control reported Tuesday.Fifteen medical workers have also tested positive for the virus, the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission said.Two cases in Guangdong were people who had not visited Wuhan but fell ill after family members returned from there. Zhong cited those as evidence the disease had spread between humans.Australia, Japan, South Korea and the U.S. were among the countries increasing airport screenings. Three weekly direct flights from Wuhan to Sydney will be met by border security and biosecurity staff for assessments, chief Australian medical officer Brendan Murphy told reporters.“Please take every possible precaution,” Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe instructed the health minister and other government departments.The coronavirus family includes those that cause the common cold, but some found in bats, camels and other animals have evolved into more severe illnesses like SARS, or severe acute respiratory syndrome, and MERS, Middle East respiratory syndrome. But does this kind of old-school, eastern medicine really work?For that answer, we went to UCHealth and spoke with a modern western doctor.“We have an extensive toolbox that we use for headache, but we need more tools,” said Dr. Lauren Grossman, MD, MS.Grossman is the medical director of UCHealth’s integrative medicine center and says traditional Chinese medicine is another way to combat concussion problems. “It’s not like writing a prescription for a pill that either works or doesn’t in one dose,” she said. “In traditional Chinese medicine, we usually recommend the patient have four to six treatments before they decide whether it’s been successful or not.” Back at Megna’s Integrated Heights Wellness and Healing Center, he is practicing acupuncture on Arnold. Deputies in Laurel County, Kentucky, arrested two women Thursday after a newborn was found on the floor of their minivan following a traffic stop. According to their arrest citations, Charolette Simpson, 69, and Rebecca Fultz, 32, both had warrants for their arrest. A deputy pulled the minivan over for traffic violations. Simpson drove for a quarter of a mile before stopping.When deputies finally got Simpson to pull over, they say Rebecca Fultz began struggling against officers. Officers say that it was 10 minutes before anyone told them that there was an infant inside the car.The child was discovered in the floor on a blanket. The car had no working air condition, and temperatures were in the 90s. The newborn was covered in insects and was wearing a soiled diaper. The infant was taken to the hospital. Inside the van were clothes with human feces on them and bag of garbage. Fultz and Simpson are both charged with criminal abuse. Fultz also received charges of menacing and resisting arrest. 1016
