SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego International Auto Show announced Wednesday that its 2020 lineup was cancelled.The show was set to take place from December 31 through January 3.“After careful and extensive consideration of the health risks and other factors resulting from COVID-19, the New Car Dealers Association San Diego County will be unable to hold and unfortunately must cancel the San Diego International Auto Show,” the New Car Dealers Association of San Diego County said.The next event is scheduled to take place from December 30, 2021 through January 2, 2022.“As much as we wanted to move forward with the show for all of those who eagerly anticipate it each year, the outbreak of COVID-19 and the pandemic has resulted in a situation where we are unable to hold the show. Of course, the health and safety of all of the workers, exhibitors and attendees who make the auto show such a special event are of vital importance,” said Dean Mansfield, president of the New Car Dealers Association San Diego County, which owns and produces the San Diego International Auto Show. “And given the incredible amount of planning exhibitors must do long in advance of an event of this size and the expenses incurred by all parties, we have endeavored to provide notice of cancellation as soon as reasonably possible,” continued Mansfield. 1346
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department gave 10News a behind the scenes look at the specially-trained team that solves arson cases. Inside Station One is the elite and highly specialized Metro Arson Strike Team, or MAST, made up of fire investigators, police detectives, ATF, FBI and a bomb squad. The team is dedicated solely to investigate arson. To be on the specialized team, MAST training goes beyond the fire academy. “You are wearing the hat of an electrical engineer, a scientist, a fire fighter, a report writer. We wear a lot of different hats and we have to be good at it,” said Captain James Shadoan. MAST spent the day with 10News demonstrating how they perform the task of solving an arson. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The suspect of a Spring Valley murder nearly seven years has been arrested in New York.Waverly James, 49, was arrested in New York for the Dec. 6, 2012, murder of 52-year-old Stanford Roy Johnson, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.Deputies say they were called to a home in the 9000 block of Lemon St. on Dec. 6, 2012, for a welfare check. Deputies found the rear door open and discovered Johnson dead from multiple stab wounds.James was identified as a suspect and arrested on a warrant in New York. He will be extradited to San Diego and booked for murder. 599
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- This year, July Fourth went off with a bang. San Diego Police said Monday that the department received hundreds of calls regarding illegal fireworks this holiday weekend.Despite canceled fireworks shows throughout the city, the department received 323 calls due to fireworks this year.The figure represents a significant uptick since last year, when the city received only 76 calls about fireworks.Despite the increase in calls, San Diego Police say they aren’t aware of any injuries due to the displays.The report comes after the City of San Diego announced that it would cancel this year’s Big Bay Boom to help halt the spread of COVID-19.According to San Diego Fire-Rescue, all consumer fireworks are illegal in the City of San Diego.That list includes sparklers, firecrackers, cherry bombs, bottle rockets, and even poppers.The National Fire Protection Association says that fireworks account for more than half of reported fires in the U.S. on Independence Day. 994
