So much has changed from just one week before the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown hit New York City.Though a lot has changed, the NYPD’s “Options” program still persists.“Options” bridges relationships between police and some of the city’s toughest neighborhoods. With a rise in shootings and violence, it is needed now more than ever.Just a few weeks before a worldwide pandemic and months before nationwide unrest over racial injustice and police brutality, there was NYC youth engaging in candid conversations with members of the NYPD.The program has been two years running and bridges the gap between the police and the city’s dynamic youth.“This is the new era of neighborhood policing, and we see that NYC has to open up a lot more and really start listening to the youth of tomorrow,” Det. Jason Anazagasty said.A virtual reality program was also created, scripted and voiced by “Options” teens. It includes real-life scenarios that play out through a virtual reality headset.Their choices on how to handle cyberbullying, violence on the streets and so much are on full display — as are the consequences of those choices.Det. Anazagasty helped create the program with the help of the Police Foundation and community schools and leaders. He said “Options” is breaking barriers, and most importantly it is working. While the ongoing pandemic has paused some planned expansions of the “Options” program to other parts of the country, Anazagasty said it will not stop in NYC and he hopes it will only grow. This story was first reported by Narmeen Choudhury at WPIX in New York City, New York. 1598

Some of the biggest names in global business and finance have canceled plans to attend an investment conference in Saudi Arabia next week because of the unexplained disappearance of prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The Washington Post columnist hasn't been seen since he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2.Sources told CNN on Monday that Saudi Arabia is preparing to acknowledge that Khashoggi was killed during an interrogation that went wrong. Saudi authorities have so far maintained that Khashoggi left the consulate the same day of his visit, but have provided no evidence to support the claim. The Saudi conference, known as "Davos in the desert," is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's plan to transform the oil-dependent economy.JP Morgan (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon and the heads of America's top investment firms — Blackrock (BLK) and Blackstone — are among the leading figures who have decided to stay away. Top executives at Ford (F) and MasterCard (MA) have also pulled out, and Google (GOOGL) said Tuesday that the head of its cloud computing business wouldn't participate in the event either.Three of Europe's top bankers — the CEOs of HSBC (HSBC), Credit Suisse (CS) and Standard Chartered (SCBFF) — pulled out on Tuesday. The heads of the International Monetary Fund and the London Stock Exchange (LNSTY) also decided not to go.The chief executives of several prominent Asian and European companies — some of whom have benefited from hefty Saudi investments — are still planning to attend, or are refusing to talk about their plans. Here's a list of big names who are still planning to participate: 1715
Speaking from a parking lot near his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Democratic nominee Joe Biden said that he would not make schools require students to get a coronavirus vaccine. The town hall was hosted by CNN drive-in movie style. The former vice president took questions from voters in a state that could be pivotal in this year’s presidential election.During the town hall, Biden repeated that he does not trust President Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus. But he said he would take a vaccine approved by the Trump administration — if Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said it was safe."I don't trust the president on vaccines. I trust Dr. [Anthony] Fauci," Biden said. "If Fauci says a vaccine is safe, I would take the vaccine. We should listen to the scientists, not to the president."In particular, Biden was angered over comments made by President Donald Trump to journalist Bob Woodward that became public last week. In the spring, Trump confided to Woodward in March that he did not emphasize the risks of the coronavirus in order not to cause a panic. I still like playing it down because I don't want to create a panic," Trump told Woodward."He knew it and did nothing. It's close to criminal," Biden said on Thursday.Trump and his public health experts have been at odds in recent weeks over the timing of when a vaccine would be both approved and widely distributed. Trump has suggested that a vaccine could be available much sooner than some experts have suggested.Trump said on Wednesday, "We are ready to go immediately as the vaccine is announced. It could be announced in October, it could be announced a little after that."But CDC Director Robert Redfield said it might not be until the middle of 2021 before a vaccine is widely available."I think we're probably looking at third late second quarter, third quarter 2021,” he said.Trump later said that Redfield was “confused” over the timing of a vaccine."I think he made a mistake when he said that,” Trump said. “That's just incorrect information. I called him and he didn't tell me that and I think he got the message maybe confused. maybe it was stated incorrectly.” 2222
