A Florida sheriff's office says it was able to identify a murder victim 35 years after he went missing thanks to the victim's custom belt buckle.According to the Pensacola Journal News, officials with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office said they were successfully able to identify the body of William Ernest Thompson 37 years after he went missing.The WKMG-TV in Orlando reports that the body was found Jan. 23, 1985 about 10 miles northwest of downtown Pensacola. Officials suspected that the man had been dead for months, and possibly more than a year before it had been found.For more than three decades, the department could not find a lead in the case. The suspected murder victim was only identified as "John Doe."It wasn't until 2018, when a person searching for a missing relative, stumbled upon the case on the Escambia County Sheriff's Office (ECSO) website. Knowing their relative had last been seen in Escambia County, the person contacted the department.But authorities said they didn't truly have a lead in the case until the relative noticed the victim's belt buckle, which matched the initials of thier uncle, William Thompson."The thing that stuck out to the person the most was the victim's belt buckle with the hand-engraved initials' W.T." Chief Deputy Chip Simmons of the ECSO said in a Facebook post. "The person felt this could have been their missing uncle, whose last known location was in Escambia County near the same time John Doe's body was discovered."The relative said that while he had never been reported missing, no one in their family had spoken to their uncle, William Thompson, since 1983. Officials took a sample of the tipster's DNA, and compared with the DNA of the body. Test results confirmed the body was that of William Thompson.Thompson would have been 49 when his body was found in 1985."This is another example of the never-ending quest for justice,” ECSO Chief Deputy Chip Simmons said in a written statement. “While we haven’t yet solved the homicide, it is a step forward and can give the family some closure until the case is solved.”The case is still open and being investigated as a homicide. 2155

A jury in Middlesex County, New Jersey, awarded million in compensatory damages on Thursday to a man who got cancer after decades of using talcum powder. His wife was awarded million in damages.Banker Stephen Lanzo said he used Johnson & Johnson products like Shower to Shower and Baby Powder for more than 30 years, and he claimed that inhaling the powder caused his mesothelioma, an aggressive and deadly cancer that impacts the lining of the lungs.Deposits of talc, one of the Earth's softest minerals, are often located near deposits of the minerals that constitute asbestos, and studies have shown the risk of cross-contamination during mining. Johnson & Johnson said its talc products do not contain asbestos, which, it noted, has been a legal requirement since the 1970s. 801

A Detroit woman is speaking out after a local business owner used the "N word" to shame her national anthem protest on Facebook.Stacey Graham is a Lions season ticket holder. She's been sitting for the national anthem since last year because she disagrees with the third verse of the "Star Spangled Banner," which mentions slavery.Graham attended the Lions' game on Sunday, and again sat for the anthem. Later that day picture of her protest showed up on Facebook that  included the caption, “you wanna sit down for the national anthem? You don’t like out country the get the “f***k” outtt”  The post also included the words “Ignorant N*****s” over the picture. The post was written by David Doptis who owns a business in Pontiac, Michigan called Restaurant Liquidation Auctions. Efforts to reach Doptis by home and at his home in Bloomfield Township were not successful.  925

A Florida man was arrested after police say he left his 19-month-old daughter outside overnight during Hurricane Irma.Angelo Mitchell, 36, of Jasper, Florida, faces a charge of child cruelty related to the Sunday incident.According to Tallahassee's WCTV, the girl's mother called police Monday morning, telling them Mitchell had taken their daughter away the night before and when she saw him again on Monday, the girl wasn't with him.Police searched the area for the girl but were unable to find her. Mitchell allegedly denied ever taking her, telling officers she was probably with a family friend, according to WCTV.At about 11:30 a.m. local time on Monday, someone found the girl in the yard of a house about 500 yards away.Police said the girl's skin had turned purple after she'd spent the entire night outside during the storm being battered by wind and rain. The girl also had scratches and bug bites on her body, according to WCTV. A cold front dropping down from Canada will be giving hundreds of thousands of people weather whiplash this week, with 30-to-50 degree 24-hour drops forecasted between Monday and Tuesday for sections of the Rocky Mountain west and western plains.Excessive heat warnings are in effect from southern Oregon to southern Arizona on Monday, according to the National Weather Service. As an early season cold blast moves south, those will be replaced Tuesday with winter weather and frost warnings along the Rockies and western plains, and wind advisories in neighboring states. 580
