SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 74-year-old woman was pinned between a U-Haul van and a retaining wall after chasing after the runaway van in Valencia Park.After exiting the van Saturday at about 7:30 a.m., the woman failed to set the parking brake, San Diego Police said. As the van started rolling northbound on Valencia Parkway, the woman gave chase.She was re-entering the vehicle when it veered to the left, struck a fire hydrant, a retaining wall, and another vehicle, police say, pinning the woman between the van and the wall.The woman suffered non life-threatening injuries, including a fractured pelvis.SDPD Traffic Officers were investigating the incident Saturday. 673

They've been color blind their whole lives, but thanks to a new pair of special glasses...that's about to change."Eventually when I got to high school, and realizing I was color blind was one of those things, like, oh, that's why I couldn't see that or I couldn't see that," said Ricardo Solano. Solano is one of about 300 million people around the world who are color blind.But as a research associate for a biotech company, there are days when he needs a little help from his colleagues."One of the main dyes they use is like red and green to differentiate things," he said, laughing. "It's a big contrast apparently, but I can't see the contrast."Solano has a good sense of humor about it, but that doesn't mean that he doesn't wish he could see the full elegance of a San Diego sunset."Just enjoying the beauty of life," he said. "I like to go backpacking and outdoors and stuff."For people who are color blind, pink looks gray, red looks brown and the colors red and green can look almost white-ish."Color vision deficiency is passed down through the father's genes," said Corey Ulz, an optician at Scripps Poway Eyecare. He said things can look dull and colors, washed out."It basically makes the colors that you and I would normally see normally not as vibrant," he said. "A little more muddled."On Monday, Solano and three other San Diegans got to see vibrant color, thanks to a special pair of enchroma glasses.Their reactions and expressions were heartwarming. "Red. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A controversial Target store opened its doors Tuesday night in North Park, on University Avenue at the corner of Ray Street. Not everyone was on board when plans for the two-story Target were announced. North Park residents worried about the impact the retailer would have on local businesses and on parking in an already crowded neighborhood. There was also frustration when Target painted over a popular mural that had been on the side of the building for years. San Diego State University professor Dana Kuhn said economically, Target could have a positive impact on the community by creating jobs and boosting businesses nearby. Kuhn said people spending money at Target would inevitably mean they spend money in surrounding businesses. Kuhn also explained that Target will provided goods and services the community needs and that the money spent will stay in North Park. Target says the new store created 60 jobs and many of the employees do live nearby. Target is officially open as of Tuesday night but a grand opening for the community is scheduled for Sunday, March 17. 1106

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A driver was taken into custody after a passenger in his car died following in a crash in Paradise Hills early Wednesday morning.According to San Diego police, an 18-year-old driver and four passengers were in a car traveling westbound in the 6100 block of Paradise Valley Road at around 2 a.m. when the crash occurred.Police said the driver tried to make “an unsafe left” onto southbound Munda Road, but the car veered off the roadway and went down an embankment.All five people were able to get out of the car and made their way back to the street, but police said an 18-year-old girl had to be taken to the hospital.The girl, who was not identified, later died at the hospital from internal injuries.The driver fled the scene, but officers -- with the help of a helicopter overhead -- found him hiding in bushes a few blocks away surrounded by coyotes.Jail records obtained by ABC 10News show the driver, identified as 18-year-old Eduardo Douglas Jones, was booked on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run causing death/injury, and DUI.The crash remains under investigation. 1119

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A college student from San Diego is in custody Monday, accused of threatening to open fire on a school campus. Last week, a person posted a screenshot of what investigators believe is a text conversation with Trevor Faison in which he sent a message threatening to “shoot up the school.” Exactly which school he was referring to was initially unclear. According to Chief Joseph Ramos at the San Diego Community College District, Faison had been a student at Mesa College last semester but was no longer enrolled. Ramos said Faison is currently attending Saddleback College in Orange County. According to Gerry Braun, a spokesperson for the San Diego City Attorney's Office, police eventually "determined the criminal threat was made against an individual at La Jolla High School."RELATED: Team 10: The City Attorney's office effort to obtain gun violence restraining ordersBraun added, "there is another pending case in Orange County with similar circumstances." Chief Ramos said there was no immediate threat to Mesa College adding, however, “whether it’s serious or not, the fact that he mentioned an attack is serious to us.”The San Diego Police Department filed a gun violence restraining order Dec. 11. Although Faison had no guns registered in his name, officers were concerned he might have other weapons.According to Braun, he was served with the GVRO when he was booked into jail Monday afternoon on a felony count of criminal threat.He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for his arraignment and has a hearing scheduled for Dec. 31 for the GVRO. 1591
