Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) wore a gas mask on the House floor Wednesday while voting on a bill that would appropriate funds to fight COVID-19, better known as the coronavirus.Gaetz tweeted a photo of himself wearing the mask Wednesday afternoon prior to a vote on a bill that would appropriate a total of .3 billion in federal funds to fight the virus and expand access to health services for seniors.Gaetz wore the mask the same day that an 11th person died of COVID-19 in California — the first death related to the disease outside of the state of Washington.Fellow lawmakers ribbed Gaetz in a series of tweets."You won't believe the shoes Matt Gaetz is wearing today. #FloridaMan," Rep. Several Illinois recreational marijuana dispensaries were closed Monday, with some owners saying strong demand has caused a shortage in supplies and staff exhaustion. The legal sale of recreational cannabis began Jan. 1 in Illinois, with customers spending about .2 million on the first day and more than .8 million over five days. By comparison, Michigan, which made recreational marijuana legal on Dec. 1, generated .1 million in the first two weeks of sales. Neal McQueeney of Midway Dispensary in Chicago said the shop stopped selling recreational product Sunday and doesn’t expect to resume sales until Friday.“The demand was huge,” McQueeney told the Chicago Tribune. “We knew we were going to run out. It was a matter of when, not if.”He said that like other stores that have stopped recreational sales, Midway is still open for medical patients.Product shortage is not the only reason some dispensaries have shut down. Jason Erkes said Cresco Labs shut its Sunnyside shops in Chicago, Rockford and Champaign to all customers to “reset” and give his staff a break after working five consecutive 14-hour days.“There are no product supply shortages,” Erkes told the Chicago Sun-Times . ”Just a shortage of state-approved employees to help efficiently service the hundreds of people that have been showing up every day to make their first legal cannabis purchase in Illinois.”One Chicago dispensary was shuttered after police said it was burglarized over the weekend. MOCA Modern Cannabis on the city’s Northwest Side was hit by thieves overnight Sunday, police said, resulting in the loss of an undisclosed amount of cash. Smart Approaches to Marijuana president Kevin Sabet said the burglary was predictable.“This is a wake up call that legal marijuana isn’t all rainbows and unicorns, that these store are detriments to the community and serious consequences often come with them,” said Sabet, who opposed Illinois’ push to legalize pot sales. 1968

TAMPA, Fla. — The family of Carla Stefaniak is suing Airbnb and the resort where she stayed, Villa Le Mas, after her body was found last month in Costa Rica. A security guard who worked at the resort has been arrested for her murder. Her body was discovered half-naked wrapped in plastic bags. "He wasn't legally authorized to work. Yet, nevertheless, he was given his own apartment there on the grounds, an apartment that was coincidentally directly next to Carla's rented villa," said attorney Jeffrey "Jack" Gordon, who filed the lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges both companies could have done more to protect its guests. The lawsuit states Airbnb and Villa Le Mas (also known as Villa Buena Vista) failed to perform any kind of background check on the security guard. According to court records, Airbnb posted complimentary and positive reviews of the resort property and its hosts. But there are multiple reports of guests who had bad experiences since 2013. "A large organization with significant resources that's making billions of dollars can't make believe it's an ostrich and put its head in the sand and say I don't see any bad things," Gordon said. The lawsuit states the U.S. Department of State has, for a number of years prior to 2018, issued opinions through its Bureau of Consular Affairs that in Costa Rica, "Violent crime, such as armed robbery and assault, is common.""It's a joint responsibility. Certainly, we have responsibility to take care of ourselves. We can't trust blindly in commercial enterprises," added Gordon. WFTS reached out to Villa Le Mas, but has not received a comment regarding the lawsuit.A spokesperson for Airbnb sent the following statement: 1691
