BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) issued a commendation on Thursday to award honorary titles to 36 grassroots Party organs and 30 Party members for their great dedication and sacrifice in providing assistance following the earthquake in Yushu of northwest Qinghai Province on April 14.A statement of the commendation released by Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee said that the Party organs and members had shown leading examples in responding and assisting following the devastating disaster, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee.One of those awarded Party members, Yang Yong, died in a car accident which occurred while returning home after finishing a medical assignment in quake-hit Yushu.Yang served as vice director of the emergency response office with the health department of the Sichuan provincial government.The CPC Central Committee called on Party members and organs to learn from the awarded individuals, to maintain their loyalty to the Party and obey the Party's disciplines so as to make more contributions to the all-round construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) - Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG), China's largest commercial port and one of the country's major gateways for foreign trade, reported a 52 percent increase in profits during the first half of the year.Net profits for SIPG were 2.6 billion yuan (385 million U.S. dollars) from January to June, up 52.4 percent year on year, the company said in a statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange on Saturday.Further, earnings per share rose 52 percent from a year earlier to 0.12 yuan, according to the statement.The company attributed the growth mainly to China's robust trade performance in the first half of the year.During the first half of 2010, China's exports rose 35.2 percent to 705.09 billion U.S. dollars while imports increased 52.7 percent to 649.79 billion U.S. dollars, according to the General Administration of Customs.SIPG shares on the Shanghai bourse closed down 0.48 percent to 4.17 yuan on Friday.

I am very glad to see that," Niwa told Chinese press in Tokyo.Upon his assignment to China, the Japanese ambassador said China and Japan, as close neighbors, should deal with each other for the upcoming 1,000 or 2,000 years rather than 10 or 20 years. In the long run, both countries share a lot of common interests, and a stable, friendly relationship is the ultimate goal.The former president of Itochu Corp. said that he aimed to boost communication, strengthen economic cooperation, and build on the mutual trust between the leaders of the two countries.Niwa also said in the age of multipolarization, no one can conduct diplomacy with knowledge of China alone. BRASILIA, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The World Heritage Committee decided on Sunday to include China Danxia Landform in the World Heritage List at its 34th meeting being held in Brasilia, capital of Brazil."Danxia Landform of China" is the general name of a Serial Nomination for World Natural Heritage. This nomination consists of six geologically and geographically related Danxia Landform areas which collectively featuring the outstanding universal values of Danxia geomorphology in south-east China.The six Danxia landform areas are: Mountain Langshan and Mountain Wanfoshan (Hunan Province), Mountain Danxiashan ( Guangdong Province), Taining and Guanzhoushan (Fujian Province), Mountain Longhushan and Guifeng (Jiangxi Province), Mountain Chishui (Guizhou Province), Fangyan and Mountain Jianglangshan ( Zhejiang Province).Danxia landform, a unique type of petrographic geomorphology, could be defined as "landform consists of red bed characterized by steep cliffs." The total core area of above five regions is 73,945 hectare, and the total buffer area is 65,446 hectare.
